Platinum 70Th Anniversary

Hello,

on Friday afternoon I found this Platinum 70th anniversary in a shop (vintage, second hand section) (see picture attached). Before buying it I tried to obtain some information on the web, without any success (probably due my unskilfulness). Does anybody have any information on it (i.e. how many were produced, type of wood etc.)? The small booklet enclosed is in Japanese only, and unfortunately I’m not able to understand it.

In my opinion it is a nice pen and the nib is very good. What surprised me is the piston filler, I didn’t know that Platinum used this kind of system.

Please send me some comments or information.

Cheers

Quetzal

Platinum made a large group of special pens for the 70th Anniversary.

The 3776 based models are indeed piston fillers, a little known fact. I'm not sure if they are a true piston or captive converter. In addition to the wood version you show, they made that model in the jade celluloid and brown marble celluloid. I own both of the celluloid models. They were also several precious metal pens of a different design.

Edit: You can find pictures of the 70th Anniversary pens here. It gives the year of manufacture and the number of pens in each edition.

Thank you for the information.

Do you have any idea of a reasonable quotation for that pen?

I paid $167 for one with paperwork but no box and inkwell. I paid $280 for the other with box, inkwell and paper work. These pens are not common but few realize they are piston fillers. The price can vary depending on how the pen is marketed. The $167 was from eBay and the seller did not really deal in pens so the price was low.

The sterling and gold overlay pens are much more expensive.

In this case the seller asked for a little bit more than the price you have paid.

Anyway the pen is nearly mint and I like it, so for me was a good bargain.

He has another platinum pen with sterling overlay but the price he is asking is too much for me (600 euro).

thank you

Pen also came in an nice expensive-looking big dark wood presentation box. Not typical Japanese pawlonia box - more like a jewel box.

Mine was found, in of all places, a swap meet in Los Angeles.
