Does Your Ink Color Match Your Pen Color?

I have thought about matching pen color to ink but since I like mostly blue ink and my pens vary in color, (which now that I think of it, is odd to me), it's not practical. I just put in whatever ink I want to try with any pen I feel like using.

What is this pen in your signature?

It is the Sensa Meridian in Carbon Black. The picture is clickable for a larger view. :)

It is a very unusual and modern looking pen. It looks heavy.

I like to exhibit my inks and colours so I use them in demo pens.

And of course! Caran d'Ache has an incredible mastery of colour.

I couldn't find this question through searching. Do you match your ink color to your pen color? Why or why not? Or does it matter at all? There are so many more ink colors than pen colors.

Ohhh, big-time. It doesn't have to 'match,' exactly, but be toned-in somehow. My red-black swirl Parker Frontier likes browns and burgundies, too. A green pen can look good with a greenish-blue ink.

I usually match my ink color to one of the colors on the pen. Black pens can, however, have any color. Don't have many metal or white pens, but I'd feel the same way about them.

That's my approach as well.

Yes, I match the colours and - getting fussy now - like to stick to one particular ink brand for matching within a particular pen model. So my Bexley Americanas all have matching R&K inks: Americana Rio Grande red, with R&K Morinda; Americana Sanibel blue, with R&K Blau Permanent; Americana Greenbrier, with R&K Verdura; Americana Yellowstone, with R&K Alt Goldgrün. If I'd got a Sierra Silver model (which is grey) I'd probably go for another colour as grey is so neutral it invites me to go away from grey or black for a splash of colour, perhaps purple.

There are other pens I am happy to use black or blue-black in, though the main pen colour is different. At the moment I'm using a pearl red Bexley Submariner SE with Pelikan 4001 blue-black. When I get a mahogany America the Beautiful or Poseidon Magnum I like the idea of blue-black ink if it matches the dark blue veining in the brown barrel. Somehow in that case brown ink such as Waterman Havana feels like too much brown. Obviously a personal opinion!

In summary, matching or at least not clashing; maybe a contrast. With black pens I like R&K Leipziger Schwarz or the dark blue-green of R&K Verdigris. I don't like blue pens very much though I like blue inks.. that's a problem I'm working on!

No, I don't match pen and ink color. The color ink I use is the one that struck my fancy at the time. For me, there are far too many beautiful colors available to limit myself to matching ink to pen color.

That's not a problem. You just buy more pens to match ALL the different ink colors. :roflmho:

No, I don't match. I have to use pretty "boring" colors at and for work. Black/Blue-Black/Blue/My own mix of Green-Black.

At first I thought it a nice idea and even tried to look for as close matches as possible. Then found out that pens/nibs are different, perform different with different brands and lines of ink, and realised why bother anyway. Just my 2c. :happyberet:

yes, but not necessarily a pure match, like red pen = red ink, more like I have a hue of the color, for example using a noodler nightshade in a red pen and a noodler walnut in a brown pen

What would you put in a clear demonstrator? Noodler's Blue Ghost?

Yes, that's exactly what I do. My pen for Blue Ghost is a Lamy Vista.

I have no problem with black ink cause it goes , matches and armonizes with whichever fountain pen color I have at hand. Then on I try to match my pens with its colors in ink. However the only ink color I dislike it is red and dont know why because I love variations in warm like brown, purple, and some strange names in japanes for oranges. autums, crepuscles and sunrises.

I deliberately put ink that is the greatest contrasting colour to that of the pen into mine. Fickle amusement purposes. That and I really like dark inks, and bright coloured pens. Can't handle the other way around though, I hate bright, colourful inks for lots of writing

I do tend to match colors, but mainly because I always have at least 4 pens in my "active rotation" and I tend to use lots of different colors. This is just a way to help me remember what ink color is in the pen I reach for. No right or wrong here.

Current Rotation:

Sailor 1911 (Noodlers Blue) / TWSBI 530 (Diamine Oxblood) / Noodlers Flex (JH Poussiere De Lune)

Kaweco Sport (Kaweco Green)

Not yet. I only have one pen so far and it's silver and gold, but I switch between black and green ink with it.

When I get more pens (whenever that may happen) I'll probably end up matching them.

I have an Esterbrook Pastel Purse pen in Country Green that I've inked with MB Gandhi saffron and Iroshizuku yama-budo magenta. I can do complementary colors just fine in some pens, but in others, like the Pelikan White Tortoise, I've only inked browns and greens. Certain pens have to match and most can do complementary, but I would have an issue totally clashing pen and ink.
