Flea marken finds today!

Snagged me a few pens today at the local flea market and passed on a few more.

Esterbrook with stainless nib marked 9556 in blue swirl celluloid for $8 (and should have tried for it's mate with a larger nib for $15 for the pair, I suppose). Sac petrified, section came out with some muscle, all ready for a new sac. Writes a bit wide for me as a dip pen, we'll see what happens with a sac in it

Passed on a Sheaffer white dot Vac fill Triumph nib in rough shape for $29 and matcing pencil for $19 -- I was shopping for bargains and prefer Snorkels -- plus fill knob would unscrew but I couldn't pull the plunger up with light pressure. Another time, I bet it stays there a while.

Last stop got me, for $12, four pens,:

1). A nice little combo pen marked "A" and "Treasure" on the nib. About 4 1/8" capped, light and dark green swirl celluloid, totally petrified sac. Section came right out, writes nicely as a dip pen, will be getting a sac soon.

2). Wearever blue plastic lever fill with gold fill cap and originally gold plated SS nib. Plating is almost completely gone off the nib, lever worked and it fills! Seems to have had blue-black ink in it, and has a broad nib

3). Cheap nasty dip pen, tiny point, wanted one for ink testing but will probably need a different nib. All the others I saw were either plastic or very broad and I use a fine nib.

4). The killer -- a Cross gold filled ballpoint in excellent shape! I'm not a ballpoint afficianado, but I do know quality when I see it, and Cross is the ballpoint I prefer.

All I need now is a couple sacs and an hour or two....

Anybody know how to determine correct size for sacs? I'm guessing a bit less than barrel diameter, but would like to know the proper way.

Pics of the four $12 pens and a closeup of the combo nib and cap. The clip is held on by tabs and had a ball tip, I couldn't get it to stay put for the pic.

Well, speaking of recent calligraphic conquests, dare I say, I received today another Parker "51" (I ... serve ... the ... Borg ... Queen ...), which, dare I further say, HAS to be a certified "Grizzy" (though, admittedly, I still don't know exactly the precise criteria for such an approbation). Basically, it's a black Parker 51 Aero, "MADE IN USA", date code "50", in generally pretty good shape, not pristine, but no nasty defects, not a show pen, but a decent "user" without major blemishes, for a grand total of $18.34, including shipping. Now, I have the following inquiries:

1. Is this a for real "Grizzy"???

2. What does a real "Grizzy" award look like? I'm thinking something like a miniature cheap plastic replica of an Oscar or an Emmy that has been broken and then placed in a 400 degree oven for an hour or so to help the repair glue dry. Of course, this is just my imagination, and I would dearly like to see a true "Grizzy" award in the flesh, better yet, get one for my own! Just want to see whether I'm really missing something I dearly desire and deserve. :roflmho: :roflmho: :roflmho:
