I don't know, I haven't bought one yet - but like the OP, I prefer a medium nib, and that's the only Parker 51-a-like I can think of that has a medium nib available. I've seen steel barrelled versions on eBay too, which I guess would be more substantial than the others. Although come to think of it, there was a Hero 100 flighter wasn't there? Hmm. But the main thing is, that's the only one of its type I've seen available with a medium nib advertised.

Current 616 has unstable quality control. Once I bought a box of 10, most of them write very wet and broader, and only a few write as fine as I expected, although they all write smooth.

 

However, if you can find 616s from 1980s and 1990s, especially those with gold color cap and nib (I have two), they are believed to have much better quality by the Chinese FP lovers. Their price double a current 616, but still very cheap.

 

BTW, although 616 is very cheap, there are still many fake 616s on the market which might write well or not.

The Jinhao 325 looks like a black version of my 321, which weighed 17g.

Hero make great pens, but the 616 and 329 are at the bottom of the range. I have a 100 (with gold nib) which I find really good - just enough flex to give character to my writing and not too expensive. I also have a Hero 800 (again with a gold nib) which is a really nice pen. It is based on the P45 flighter and uses Parker cartridges or converter.

Fake 616s?? Are you serious? imitation of a less than $10 pen?

Well, today i've received my Hero 616 Jumbo burgundy. i like it so much. feels light and rather nice writer.

 

Fine nib is like tailored for me because i like medium nibs most, but 616's lines are not that thin.

 

Recommended.
