Noodler's Bad Green Gator

So, I decided to dip my toe in and try an ink review.

I've chosen Bad Green Gator just because the reviews for it seem to differ and it's an ink I've used for a month or so now.

 

The scan did not come out as color accurate as I had hoped, so I did a full sunlight photo as well to just show how it actually appears on the page to my eye.

 

My overall thoughts on BGG is that it is meant for finer nibs, and cheaper paper. Using my M nibed TSWBI Diamond 530, the feathering I hadn't seen before with this ink started putting in an appearance. It's not terribad, but it's more than I want. It's a shame because it goes down so smooth and fast, that were it not for the feathering, it would be a definite candidate for constant use in that pen.

 

It has a quick dry time on the page, and started back up immediately in my Preppy after sitting untouched for over a week with no skipping, and had no bleed-through at all with the finer nib. The TWSBI M nib had a bit of bleed-through, but it wasn't bad and it wouldn't have kept me from writing on the back of the page. It's enough that you can tell there is writing on the other side in places, but not enough to tell what it is or interfere with the side being written upon.

 

As far as color goes, I like this particular shade of green a lot. If I had to put a name to it, I'd call it money green, because it just feels like the dark green ink that's on money to me. (Mostly on the older bills, from when I was growing up before the fed got all fancy with multi-colors.) And that it's a Warden ink is just a bonus. I will definitely keep using this ink, but I won't be putting it in an M or broader nib again.

I don't typically need bulletproof/eternal properties and don't care for the minimal (if any) shading and nib creep with these inks, so it's probably not an ink for me. Still, I really do like the color.

Thank you. I wouldn't say I typically need those properties anymore either. I just wish I had known this type of thing existed back when I was a bank teller.

 

Waterproof is generally secure enough for me, and generally non-water proof makes me sadpanda, if only because I am very clumsy and there is always a chance of drink spillage, but lack of waterproofing will not stop me from getting an ink if I really like the color. I'm starting to think I am a color junkie.

Thanks for the review. I use this ink in my Lamy Safari for work. I use it to write in my lab book and take notes in the lab. The nib creep bugs me and is the reason I won't use it for normal everyday writing. With that said I love the color and will continue using it for work and addressing envelopes.

Thanks for the review. I'll have to see it in person, but the color kind of looks like the late MB Racing Green. I think we can all agree that this is a good thing. Perhaps I'll order some.

I suggest getting a sample first if possible. Most folks who have used it have had issues with the feathering and other behavior issues on paper. If you get lucky and have the right pen and paper for it I'm sure it's a great ink, but in my experience it's rather picky about what it will work well with. The color is a slightly bluish green, and I don't think it compares to MBRG at all.

Thank you for your review. I am fond of green ink. Currently choosing to use Diamine Sherwood Green and Noodler's Forest Green. This is another green I may wish to try.

This ink has a very nice color but, as with all of Nathan's Warden inks, they flow! Like a river of ink cascading towards the Sea of Cellulose. Woe be to the writer that useth this ink in a wet pen or one with a stub nib. Unless you're REALLY a fast writer!

I snagged some of this ink to test and had NO idea of its properties. All I knew was that it is a nice, deep, deep forest green, and it worked well in my Hero 329 on just about any paper I put it to.

 

I expected it to smear and feather but it hasn't.

So, I got a bottle from a fellow FPNer. It feathers a touch, but nothing I can't life with. My bigger problem is that I find it to be bland. I've been using Noodler's Purple for a while, and the down-tempo shade of this ink is tough for me to get on to. I might keep using it, or not. I haven't decided yet. I might be persuaded to trade this for something if anyone is interested...
