1926 Pilot Hoshiawase

I have become the happy owner of some old Pilot pens. This is one of them.

A BCHR Pilot hoshiawase from 1926:

All in all, it is "just" an eyedropper pen with a safety valve.

But a quite sophisticated one:

Indeed an interesting pen.

Some more information on hoshiawase pens on these links: FPN, and Crónicas Estilográficas.

Cheers,

Iosepus

Thank you for sharing here such a superb find. Can you pls take a picture of the end of the barrel section? It will help understand the mechanism.

Best

The whole mechanism is on the section. The end of the barrel does nothing at all... but holding the ink.

In the section, the wider ring close to the nib rotates with respect to the longer, conical part of the section. That rotation opens and closes the valve.

On the following pic, the aligned red dots show that the valve is open. To close it, just rotate one of them to its end--the misaligned dots show a closed valve.

That mechanism is described on this chronicle.

Cheers,

Hi Iosepus,I meant the section, I have corrected my post. Is there a moving conical seat valve concentric to the section's orifice that moves up and down, as the collar below the nib is moved?

Very nice pen!!!

Interestingly enough i recently bought a Pilot hoshiawase in BCHR. It is an oversize pen measuring 15cm and has a huge very flex #8 nib. I don't have the pen yet, but once it is here i will post photos. #8 nibs are rare and amazing soft and flexible.

Can you please tell me the dimensions of your pen and what is written on the imprint?

Enjoy this beautiful pen!
