The Most Elegant You Ever Saw..

these are beautiful pens. How much do they go for??

They are handtailored and you tell your wishes and likes and he tries to adjust the pen for you (if the structure of the wood allows it). He's in direct contact with Bock for the nibs (they are almost the only ones that produce all the nibs for all the European and many US pen manufacturers), but you don't get the same customization like it is with Nakaya.

He makes only about 150 pens a year, not more and the pen takes around 3 years to be completed (ok, the first 2,5 years are drying the wood without working ) and more than 300 different steps in the process for refining the pen.

So - the price varies with your needs, but what I have learned they go for about 1200-1500€. The simple, just straight ones for 800€ up. Depending on the wood and your wishes.

Greetings,

Michael

A couple more I'd consider elegant. BTW, I'm surprised not just athe people that have no difficulty with characterising a large pen as elegant, but with some of the overly ornate sideshow monstrosities (from my point of view, of course) to which people also seem willing to apply that description. Room for all sorts of tastes, fo course, and one shouldn't be surprised when someone else's choice seems jarring, but.....

Parker 75 - in some of the less ornate versions like this sterling and vermeil Florence (a rare pattern).

A simple Parker Falcon in stainless looks elegant to me:

IMHO Elegant implies understated, atemporal and not too flashy or trendy.

I like the craftsmanship of the German Stefan Fink with his Albatros-pen.

Unfortunately it is too expensive for my liking (>1200€), so I stick with the Pilot Myu 701...

some images (the bottom pen)

It's a nice combination of metal and wood, with liveliness of the wooden structure, but really restraint in form and flow of the lines. Quite a thoughtful and harmonious design.

You can have a look at the different available woods here:

Thanks, guys, for sharing these unique and elegantly designed pens....

It's fun (for me at least....) to see some pens included that I don't see every day or often mentioned....

Well, I've never seen this one, but it would be my Grail pen, an oversized Wahl - Eversharp Doric in red AKA Morocco.

What is the most sophisticated, classy, beautiful, elegant fountain pen and couldnt ever forget about it?

I don't have one but I think the Stipula Etruria is a very elegant looking pen. I would love the Amber or the Alter Ego, both colors are really classy in my opinion.

Oh man! I just had to look at this thread and see this...I have never been so interested in a pen since I got my first Monte. I would love to order one of these but there are no prices on the website so I'm curious are they priced like Montblancs, Parkers, LAMY, etc.

Thanks!

ETA: Okay, just saw the prices and holy cow! I can't afford one. Bummer...

The Waterman Edson LE in sterling silver. Many, if not most, of the sterling silver pens from Conway Steward, Yard-o-Led and Onoto mix luxury, beauty, and restrained design.

The most elegant, in my opinion, is the Visconti Divina Black:

These swirls of silver strings all around the pen are fascinating, clean and delicate.

The twisted pentagon shape of the Divina is a favourite of mine, but I prefere the Divina Proporzione and Cosmopolitan. I think their brighter and more complex colour/patterning better shows off the ununusual shape without crossing the line into being garish.

The Spirit of Life - Salman's calligraphy, Henry's overlay...

As somebody else said: any Henry Simpole overlay pen!

Visconti's Divina Proporzione is sophisticated with its design elements touching on high math, evolutionary biology, and the way humans define and appreciate beauty.

Then the OMAS Imagination might appeal to you as well, as it's theme was scientific discovery, and it's engraving was mostly composed of mathematical formulas from major scientific theories.

To me, elegance is the ability to present a visually charged image with as few elements as possible. Being a former South Westerner, I grew to dislike black because of its massive heat absorbing and radiating ability. Wearing a black hat identified you not only as a villain but also as a fool with a cooked brain :). So black pens don't really interest me as far as elegance is concerned.

With that in mind I would say that the Montblanc Tribute stands as my finest example of elegance in pen design. White, simplified shape, semiprecious stone inlay cap stone and platinum finish metal furnishings cuts a fine design.
