Pilot Custom Heritage 92 Piston Filler

Recommended Posts

I tried to take apart the piston system after I successfully did so for the nib section,

and found that the piston is impossible to remove without a thin, nearly flat wrench

or a spanner. I am planning to obtain one of those TWISBIs anyway, I hope I get it

soon so the wrench-spanner will make it easy for me to take apart this pen!

A FPN member requested me to post some comparison photos with the M400. I have taken some photos of the Custom Heritage 92 along with a M405.

Is there a chance for a solid colored resin body model in the future? I would defintely be getting that.

The newly introduced smoke ones are gorgeous. I am also planning a purchase.

Pilot has recently introduced blue, orange and grey tinted tranaparent colors on this pen, maybe a solid color is in the works, we don't know yet...

Hari, I love reading your posts and reviews.

Thank you George.

Yeah, the smoke is the nicest of the new range... The grey parts on the other colours

make the blue and orange a little unusual... :headsmack:

It could be useful if somebody recorded video on "how to disassemble it".

could somebody tell me how to disassemble it? video will be even better. I've got a basic idea but want to be sure - it is not the cheapest pen.

I received this pen in the mail today, brand new from Taizo. I decided to take it apart just to see how it has been put together and also to see if I could get a better ink capacity by playing with the piston stroke.

The piston filler combines the best elements of design from those found on MB and on the Pelikan piston fillers. I think it is a winner, very solid. The filler is practically identical to the Pelikan system, but has plastic on the non critical areas to save weight. Uses RH filler threads like MB unlike Pelikan. One can use the same 7mm flat spanner that you use for the Pelikan and TWSBI, but has the useful and practical end stop washer like on MB(will prevent overtightening of filler in the barrel). However the piston seal has just one sealing lip as in MB(Pelikan uses 2 lips).

I found that Pilot had adjusted the piston stroke well and I could not achieve a better capacity than stock. The stock grease used is very very clear and is very thin.

The filler is easy to take apart and maintenence friendly. I think the stock grease should last quite well so you may really not need to take it apart anytime soon.

The pen writes like a regular Pilot Custom 74/91, no difference.

I hope this was useful.

Cheers!

Hari

Could this pen be easily converted to an ED? What would you estimate the capacity to be ?

No, Ed conversion will involve removal of several parts and sealing some interfaces, I think it would be crazy to convert this pen to ED. YMMV.

I received this pen in the mail today,

Thank you for sharing the disassembly of CH92 :) (though, I would not do that now to my CH92) . Did you apply silicone grease to the piston-seal before reassembling this?

Coz my 580's piston seal wouldn't move unless I applied a fair amount of grease...

The beauty of Pilot engineering is that even when the pen is designed to be taken apart, the need for it may never arise.

Yes, I used some 100% Philips silicone oil on the lip.

Hi there, I came across this post on disassembling a Custom Heritage 92. I disassembled my pen for cleaning, only to find that the cap now refuses to screw completely down. Can I ask if you know what the problem is? Thanks!

Firstly, it is not necessary nor normal to disassemble a pen for the sake of routine cleaning.

Your problem is incorrect reassembly.

To solve your problem,

disassemble the pen again.

Assemble the filler mechanism outside the pen. make sure the knob closes fully when the mechanism is outside the pen. Once that is done, simply unscrew the knob a few turns to expose the flats on the connector, screw the assembly into the pen.

scouting for info on Clear Demonstrators only for my Demonstrator collection and I like demonstrators that are eye candy and a fantastic writer.

so stumble on your post and now i kinda want to get the C 92 (mostly because it's piston means more ink sloshing around).

Hari317 may i know

- how is the pen holding up as of today ?

- any problem what-so-ever or stops, leakages, cracking etc... ?

- I don't mind thin or thick lines but is the nib smooth ? if i get the medium or broad will it be buttery smooth ? (ex. not toothy)

Crystal Clear Demonstrators are such marvels, each with their set of stories clearly written out for all to feast on.

-This pen is sold, long back. but I have other 92s which have held up very well.

-no problems

-smoothness will depend on the nib width and your luck. Generally Pilot M and up are glassy smooth.
