Excellent advice, wastelanded. It is a screw-in nib unit. I should have flossed the nib slit, but tired of fiddling with it and notified the eBay seller, who immediately shipped a new pen and more than paid for the return shipping. http://myworld.ebay.com/yesteryears-fountain-pens-2012/ Their prices aren't particularly low, but the customer service is outstanding.

I've lost count of how many pens I've bought from Evelien, she's one of the best. Definitely stands behind her stuff.

Hello FPNs,

I have just received a "Tropen Gold" (1950-1960) as mentioned on the cap, which has been forgotten decades in an attic in Germany.
What a good idea.
The nib is a Degussa 14K <OF>.
The section unscrews, which allowed me to put a touch of silicone in the tank to facilitate the new life of the piston (blind cap).
The original packaging is an unpretentious plastic box, which contains the warranty and the "Gebrauchsanweisung" manual.
The top of the cap is very pretty, but is not golden. Obviously, this finish has changed several times on the "Gold" model.

Bought for 45 € including tax and delivery.

Happy with this acquisition.

I downloaded a few pictures in Album "Tropen Gold".
