Well that's too bad. I used to follow that blog and remembered the Allan's reviews. I was going to look it up and post a link but you beat me to it. I would have expected more cooperative paper from such a pricey journal. It sure is beautiful though.

I've used Diamine and HSS Registrar's ink in my Allen journal and it is OK for writing on both sides of the paper, but I'm using a fine (for me) nib - a Waterman W5 with some flex. Well, thin paper shows through when you hold it to the light, but there is no feather or bleed.

There is quite heavy show-through - I didn't have any feathering or bleed though, which is impressive for the thinness of the paper. It's easily the best ultra-thin paper that I have used.

 

The following are scans, by the way, so the show-through is not nearly as dramatic in real life as it appears, as usually pages are not being illuminated by a close harsh white light.

Be careful. I have never had a Cavallini journal that is FP friendly. Indeed the last one I tried was probably the worst FP paper I have ever tried. Keep in mind I have only ever bought two or three but that was enough to deter me forever. if anyone has had very recent experience I would be interested in knowing here. They make some great journals but if you can't write in them then it doesn't really matter.

In your opinion, which journal fits the bill when money is no object and you want a high quality journal with quality paper? I like a leather cover and I prefer a blank page with thin, smooth paper...

I'm a bit late to this thread, but...Please have a look at Papier Plume's Italian journal. The journal has a leather spine, extremely well made, and the paper is Fabriano. I think it's the same paper (blank, cream, unlined) used in Bindewerk journals, available from Papeterie Nota Bene in Montreal and also great--if a bit plain. More than a bit plain--black with a metal edge, but very well made. Papier Plume is in New Orleans. Both journals are A5 size, and I use both. I think I have a stash of five and five. Or maybe four and four. Great paper.

Thank you. Several times. But the beauty of this journal is such that it just might stifle writing in it. I mean, what's to be said that would match the quality of this book? No more entries about a lousy stomach or a hangover. No more snarky remarks about friends and family. And making snarky remarks about friends and family is central to my journal writing. But my goodness what a beautiful book. Having one might improve a person's character. So I'll avoid it; but, still, thank you.

I use Pinetti paper for my personal journaling. Fantastic Italian-made paper and leather covers. It's costly, but worth the expense IMHO.
