Akkerman Inks From The Netherlands

Yes, thank you very much!! I'm visiting the website now, but I am missing where to place an order.

I had called and talked to Paul in January. He said the best thing is for people to send an email directly to him at paulrutte@vulpennen.nl with your address (for delivery charge calculation), and which inks you wanted. He said there was a threshold of 3 inks that he recommended everyone start with until they saw how reliable the shipping worked out to be. Here was his initial pricing to me by email, and you can now ask him for his PayPal address he is using. You can see how my order for 3 bottles added up to EUR 73.90 Also, they know all about this thread.

TNT seems to be the cheapest way... with regular mail with track & Trace

To ship 3 bottles (which is just les than 2 kg with packing) cost € 24,40 euro

If you want more bottles up to 8 (from 2 till 5 kg with packaging) the cost are 34,30 euro.

That's the best I can do for you, and I know it is expensive... Sorry !!

The costs for a bottle is € 16,50 so you can calculate for yourself the total costs, depending of the amount of bottles you are ordering.

Payment through bank wire in advance

Thank you for your help ... I appreciate it. Due to shipping, I'm going to have to wait a while. Maybe in March.

Too bad the shipping is so expensive! At about $33.00 a bottle shipped to the US, I doubt that I'd be buying soon - though I really do like the bottles and colors. :( Guess I have to take a trip to The Hague...

I......but trust me that I will find out where the missing €7.00 went. ...

OK, here are ABN AMRO's corporate cusomer fee charts in English

On page 3:

"International Payment Charges

Cashless credits

Transfer in accordance with EC-criteria [8] EUR 0.14

Transfer not in accordance with EC-criteria [8] 0.1% subject to a minimum of EUR 7.00 and a maximum of EUR 70.00

8 EC criteria: transfer in/between EU countries, in euros, carrying a full and correct IBAN and BIC, and not exceeding EUR 50,000.00, based on shared charges with the beneficiary."

...and since the US is not a member of the EU and denominates money in USD (aside from the fact that the US does not use the IBAN) ABN Amro NL would charge an extra 7 euros...which would not show on the bill at Citizens since both are joined only by being subsidiaries of the same parent: RBS. A branch at Citizens would not have a list of the customer fees at ABN, or any other correspondent bank.

But if this discrepancy is related to that incoming wire fee, wouldn't they list the deposit as 73.90 and then separately assess a fee of 7 Euros? Otherwise, how does anyone keep track of actual deposit payments and fees, which can have different tax category reporting requirements. i.e. 73.90 Euros is taxable retail income. 7 Euros is bank fee expense which may or may not be deductable. In any case, they are significantly separate categories of financial transactions. I cannot imagine they would make the bank fee invisible by burying the deduction in an incoming deposit.

Moving on to more important matters, I'm surprised no-one has commented on the beautiful Airedale in the group photograph at the website.

Oh, I most definitely noticed the Airedale! I grew up with an Airedale as my best friend. I still miss her. They are magnificent animals. I love your avatar pic, too!

   Paul really did an incredible job on securely packing the bottles. Even wrapped each bottle in plastic bags and added foam noodles INSIDE each box as well, bubble bags, box inside a box, more bubble bags...the parcel was indestructible.

What colors did you get Bentley? I've never done ink reviews before, but I'm keen to try!

Can somebody confirm the ijzergalnoteninkt of Akkerman is a true ferro-gallic ink and not just a fancy name mimicking the authenthic thing with a dye ink ?

Excellent news on the secure packing. That was Paul's primary concern with this least expensive shipping method.

As to whether it is a true ferro-gallic ink you can e-mail Paul directly and ask. I was told it was indeed.

Just a little spelling correction: IJzer; in Dutch the "i" and the "j" can form the ligature "IJ" or "ij", spoken like English "ey". IJzer (in German it's "Eisen") is iron.

Nevermind, you've got a delicious collection there, that amount will last you forever.puddle.gif

Thank you soooo much for showing those photos. These are stunning bottles. Is there a number also on the bottle in case you forget which is which? Other thing I wondered is if there is an easy way to empty the upper reservoir ink back down below the marble (left after filling your pen)--maybe by tilting partially?.

SamCapote,

Bottles actually have a small(thin but wide) label on the back that has the color name.

Yes a slight tilt will drain ink back to the lower section. I did that and then swirled the bottle to coat the upper section so the color would be more visible. Most drain off the glass quickly, except the green which seems to adhere to the glass better than the others...will be interesting to see how it behaves in a pen.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm now at peace! Got my three bottles today (#3, 5, 9), and not only do the colors exceed my expectation and are much richer than the web swabs from OP, but these bottles are the coolest.

Congratulations on getting them...I agree they are really nice! Just have not had any time to get some on paper and posted to the review section! Colors are good, lubrication seems to me to be adequate to good. Bottles are awesome!

Enjoy!
