Professor Plume's images have me salivating. Purple and orange are two of my favorite ink colors. Now, if only I had her handwriting....

Thanks, Professor Plume. I'm really impressed with the color samples that have been shown so far. Now I wish that I had ordered more colors!

That is a beautiful orange. Thanks Professor!

Stunning orange.

@ Prof. Plume: those colours are stunning! Thanks for the photos!

@ texaspenman: I think I missed this comment the first time through. Any further development?

For anyone interested, I'll be bringing out a product similar to this bottle within the next few months. This weekend the first prototype will be made. I'll let you know how things go!

What is the total cost per bottle shipped to the US? These are beautiful inks!

I paid over $113 for three bottles. Not a great bargain, but I'm a sucker for a pretty bottle. (I won't buy Noodlers anymore after trying one, not only because it wasn't good in my pen, but also because the bottles are humdrum.)

$113 for 3x150 ml works out to $12.56 per 50 ml. That's not an unreasonable price per volume, particularly not if it includes shipping.

ETA: Of course, if you don't expect to ever use 50 ml of the ink (could easily happen if you have many bottles of ink) this calculation isn't relevant.

Compare to $15 or so for an 80 ml bottle of Diamine from my local shop, and yeah, I guess it's not too bad. I don't own a lot of ink, so the addition of the purple and the unusual blue will do me for a while.

My bottles showed up today. :D It took ten days to ship from the Netherlands to the west coast of the U.S.

Here's a scan of the first one loaded; I'll add the others as I get a chance.

Initial impressions are that it is beautiful color with good lubrication and a nice flow on good paper. On cheap paper, it feathers and bleeds (at least with this pen). I'll gain some experience with different pens and a variety of papers, and then will post a full review.

How does it look compared to Baystate Blue... because Baystate Blue looks kinda purplish until it dries... hmmmm.

So this could possibly be Diamine Sapphire Blue in with an Akkerman name.

It could be. I like Diamine inks so that wouldn't be particularly upsetting.

I'll have to get a sample of Sapphire Blue the next time I place an order with Pear Tree or Goulet Pens and do a direct comparison.

Oh, it shouldn't be upsetting. Diamine is good stuff. I'm among those who believe Diamine is the most likely manufacturer of Akkerman's inks. The only questions for me are: which is which? And are there some Akkerman exclusive colours among them?

Slowly, review by review and picture by picture, we can try to match the colours.

I suspect that you're right about Diamine being the manufacturer. Shocking Blue is among the bottles I purchased and that one looks like Diamine Majestic Blue. I still have a small amount of Majestic Blue around here somewhere and so can put up side by side scans in the next couple of days.

Akkerman Bekakt Haags is remarkably similar to Diamine Chocolate Brown, and Akkerman Voorhout Violet is similar to Diamine Damson, but they are not exactly the same. It could just be the different pens I'm using, but in both cases the Akkerman inks are darker.

I just posted some comparison images here: Comparisons - Akkerman vs. Diamine Brown & Violet

I thought I'd post a photo of a quick ink sample comparing Akkerman's Oranje Boven with the Diamine oranges. There has been some discussion about this and this photo really doesn't depict it effectively, but these inks clearly have their subtle differences.

Now I would expect the Dutch to be picky about their royal colour.laugh.gif Akkerman can't come forward with something washed out or without dignity, since they are purveyors to the court now and the ink might end up on the shopping list of Queen Beatrix herself. She was "Prinses van Oranje" as heir to the throne of a dynasty which has roots in the Principality of Orange.
