Worst Fountain Pen Mistake?

FPK

Recommended Posts

Nothing major so far but this one happened 30 minutes ago: I was walking around the office with my mind pre-occupied with a problem. In my right hand, I was holding my "51" and my coffee mug (I have big hands) when I suddenly asked myself "what the heck is poking me in the stomach?"...I had forgotten to put the cap on the 51 and I was jabbing myself with the nib! I am now the proud owner of a shirt with three rather large "Bleu Myosotis" spots on it!:headsmack:

Yes, wasting money on Jinhao's, Hero's, Haolilais, Haushauli & Baoer pens (although some of them aren't toooo bad)

I guess that would reflect my biggest mistake, though I hadn't thought of it when i first saw this post. I kept assortment of good fountain pens in my office prior to Katrina. Having already experienced a lot of hurricanes, I didn't expect what would happen. When we were locked out of the office building due to major mold hazards, my office went unattended for 3 months. All of my pens were stolen, and virtually nothing else. Lost all of my Sheaffers. Now all of my eggs are in one basket...at home.

I only lost a few items, besides my pens. It looked like an attempt to bring me on the wrong track, but it wasn't even a good attempt.

Something similar to our stories happened to a friend, the only difference was, that it was his collection of valuable cell phones (well, it's his hobby). My biggest concern and suspicion is, that the thief gotta be someone, that knew that those things have been there. This narrows it down, in most cases, to those people that are pretty close to you. I hate that thought.

Buying a NOS, uninked, vintage Aurora 88P. It's gorgeous, but the ostensibly medium nib is thinner than an XF. I can't stand writing with it, but I'm hesitant to part with it. I frankly just wish I had never bought it in the first place.

1.Buying a premium pen and expecting premium service and warranty when it broke due to poor assembly. Very poor service and warranty was the payback.

2. Being railroaded by SWMBO into replacing said pen with another new premium pen that so far has yet to materialise despite being paid for in late May.

3. Not going with my instincts and buying another vintage pen instead of the above. (May still happen.....)

Making an account on FPN , can't stop looking at pens now :D

Hmm my mistake would be throwing out a Parker 51 back when I was much younger and thought that it was a cheapo pen.

  • 2 weeks later...

1. Leaving my Montblanc 146 and Classique Ball Pens where my family could find them (lost both...)

2. Allowing one kid to carry an Aurora FP to school (stolen).

3. Allowing the other kid to find one of my nice multi pens on the night stand ("borrowed" and lost the eraser cap).

4. Allowing my wife to take my Waterman Carene without the leather sleeve (big honkin' scratch on the cap).

I'm sure there are many others I'm not thinking of at the moment. I could write a book.

Improperly storing my fountain pen into a side pocket in my bag, then deciding to jump my fence (I was a grown man...if only in age) to get to my front door. The next day I realized I couldn't find the pen (MB 146, my first pen purchased) and a few days later found it on the ground. My dog had chewed on it thinking it was a shiney toy or something. The pen still works but has scratches that are deep. It's now my "battle pen"

Bought a Sailor 1911. Two weeks later...

made a brake took the pen up again and it sliped from my fingers and striked with the nib tip to bottom.

Now I've got an unwanted Sailor 1911 Concord. Some would be happy me not. :crybaby:

I got my first piston filler and thinking that it was empty, I twisted the section and drops of blue ink fell onto my favorite rug!

1. Putting my Agio in my back-pocket and watching the section(yes! the section, split down the threaded screw-in area)

2. Losing far too many Parker Vectors through school.

3. Attempting to align the tines in my Parker Rialto.

4. Dropping my Phileas (uncapped) to the floor.

5. Losing my Inoxcrom School Fountain Pens Collection (nearly 11 pens) through school.

... This list makes me sad, I refuse to write further!

So far in my short time owning and using fountain pens: buying an Ohto Rook. That pen is all gimmick and no joy. It skips really badly on any paper better than a Moleskine (and frequently in those as well) and about a week or so after getting it it's got a ring around the aluminum section where the cap rubbed off the color. It's cute, but so not worth the $15 I spent on it. I keep it in my pocket for work, since it does far better on computer paper and PostIt notes and I can still have a FP around but not be totally heartbroken if it gets lost.

My mom was playing with her pelikan m400 and promptly broke the clip off.she told me that she had assumed that they would be more durable :headsmack: She also managed to get in a giant fght on the phone with the repair lady, and after that decided she did not want to have it fixed and through the whole pen away. Grrrrr.

Trying to impress others by writing with a pen. <-- friend's mistake

Otherwise, for me, Hero 100 in pocket. Even if it's a flighter, no pens in pocket anymore.
