Worst Fountain Pen Mistake?

FPK

Recommended Posts

Buying a Namiki Vanishing Point.

why? Everybody says they are great...(but I could be wrong)

I'm really limited by the short ink supply, even when I do syringe fills on the converter. It's unfortunate, because I love the pen.

giving a pen to a girl friend as a gift and finding out she couldn't care less.

Buying my wife her first pen, not realizing that she would get the bug.

I melted a Sheaffer Vacu-Fil pen with a heat gun trying to remove the section.

Letting my Parker Vacumatic get infected with mold, although that was really not my fault it still upsets me.

I'd rather spend my money on pens instead of shoes and handbags.

modern parker duofold centennial

Yes! Times 2! (Blue marble and burgundy marble) Stunning looks but unreliable writers (skipping after a couple of pages, hard starters after a day).

And buying a modern Parker Duofold Platinum online (for the looks), and finding out Parker also makes a ridiculously small demi, for just exactly the same price as a International. So now I have one of those while I am equipped with hands that make an Omas 360 Magnum seem like a midsize pen.....

Latest additions: Aurora Dante Inferno (B), Graf Von Faber Castell Classic Wood Ebony (OM), La Couronne Du Comte Willem van Oranje (M), Montblanc Writers Edition Cervantes (M), Aurora Optima Cento Riflessi Limited Edition (B)

Personally, if you want a very good quality Duofold then you should go for a senior model of the roaring twenties with its reliable button filling system and very good nib (you can find flex nibs on these sometimes),they are outstanding writers. Also the duofold geometric in toothbrush celluloid from the 30's is quite nice even if it is smaller than the older senior sized duofold. Here is richard binder's page http://richardspens.com/(courtesy of rcihard binder)about vintage duofolds, worth a read if you plan to invest in one of these pens later. The omas 360 magnum is two classes above the duofold because not only it is a piston filler but also because its nib is a first class nib and it almost never skips

I twisted my TWSBI 530 a little (a lot) too much and broke the mechanism.

Words, when spoken, like birds, fly away.

That's why we write. Paper is the cage that keeps our words in place so we can see and appreciate them.

Pens are the nets we use to catch them. -Katie Grey

carrying a small box of pens to school for writing and grading, forgetting it in the front seat of my pickup truck, coming back out at the end of a long hot morning and getting into a 115F cab, and telling myself "oh, one hot morning won't make the pens leak ..."

I was wrong. There was ink inside every cap ...

This, but for a week. Every pen was crusty and dried and oh god, ink EVERYWHERE. It took hours to get everything properly flushed. How annoying.

I thought I would adjust my nib on my Waterman Carene. I accidentally bent it badly. I tried to bend it back and damaged it worse. I fortunately have an extra Carene nib unit. It is the wrong color, but at least it works. I now have a franken-Carene.

Mine would be leaving a parker sonnet in my pants it the lockerroom--the clearners found it and threw it out :headsmack: :headsmack:

Basically the same for me, only that it was a pilot VP carbonesque in my case :headsmack: :headsmack: :headsmack: :headsmack:

Actually after hearing experiences from lapis and gmrza I too have to confess: MB is a bit disappointing to me.....For those prices I would expect good flowing pens, but I have tried so many ink in these pens (including MB own Midnight Blue) and never had a good flow in two of these pen (one Meisterstück...). Tried converters and MB cartridges too, never had a good consistent flow and I often have to scratch the tip over the paper or

Actually the best flowing pens to me are cheap Lamy and Papermate school fountain pens with an inox tip.... How is this possible ???

this leads to one of my worst experiences - I have been collecting pens for over 23 years and I've received many pens with suboptimal ink flow, or some other small issue. Always thought it was me or how it was supposed to work until I finally sat down with an excellent B&M, dedicated pen store in Los Angeles and found out what a pen should really feel like! My Pelikan 800 works great but now I am faced with a lot of nib adjustments! If it doesn't feel right, it's not and get it fixed!

The total absolute worst mistake I EVER made, fountainpenwise was buying a Stipula 22 with titanium nib and taking it for granted that Stipula would actually stand behind their product. Even as a regular at the shows in D.C., I showed it to the Stipula rep and he did NOTHING for me several years in a row.

My solution was to give it to Richard Binder who fixed it for me. The other thing that got fixed was the thought, burned into my mind FOREVER that I wouldn't touch another Stipula pen if they gave it to me for free and paid me a considerable sum in addition.

I put two new pen sets for sale on tht eBay - Inoxcrom Wall Street Chrome FP+BP, and Parker Rialto Matte Blue FP+BP. I forgot to list a minimum bid price and both sold for $5 and change, I was honour bound to send the pens which I did - albeit with a heavy heart. Next time I'l list a minimum bid price.

Enjoy your pens

Have a nice day

Micarta should be very fire resistant.

Change is not mandatory, Survival is not required.
