Do they still do lifetime guarantees on 149?

It's the same 2 years warrenty as on their other products; they must give this by EU law anyways.

The Golden Gate Pen shop was at 278 Post (corner of Stockton) when it was owned by a fellow who eventually retired and sold the store to Jenny Wang (who moved the store half a block down Stockton).

Jenny's reopening of the store in the 1990s was covered in Pen World.

If someone wants to go through old Pen Worlds, there may be some mention as to whether a 1959 or 1969 date is plausible for the earlier instance of the store.

I wondered too about the dates but for another reason. A 1969 date seems a little late for the two digit series, IIRC MB returned to the single length three digit 1xx, 2xx and 3xx pens in the mid sixties. Now it could be that there was still a surplus of NOS two digit pens at that time but the fact that there is no mention of the three digit MBs makes me think that the brochure was earlier.

Also I remember looking at a 149 when I got married a couple years before 1969 and IIRC it was almost $100 at the time.

Sorry Jar, but the two digit pens were definately produced between September 1959 and August 1969. The "new" 1xx, 2xx and 3xx pens were not produced before September 1969.

Thanks. Like I said, I'm old and so forgetful. I thought the three digit pens were a little earlier.

Thanks for sharing! That ink bottle sure was something.

Back in those days the bottles must have looked very futuristic; today they look ....well, interesting :P

While reading the ad about the 149 the first thought jumped in my mind was This is not very politically correct and today MB would not dream on saying this.

I am sure GP will totaly disagree with what they said about the 149 fitting MANS hands!!!

Respect to all

Never mind-- this forum answered that question!

"I'm looking at an old box/bottle of MontBlanc "Coffee Brown" in plastic container which also says "With SuperCleaner SC 16," and guess what is the predominant smell...you guessed it! Phenol."

  • 6 years later...

These catalogues are wonderfully helpful in putting together all the pieces needed to date a pen.

Anyone have more catalogues to share?

Could anyone tell me where these images could be viewed currently?

I'm trying to obtain info regarding a MB 124 with striations on cap and barrel that I just purchased.

Thanks

John
