Favorite Dip Pens

There is nothing like sitting by candlelight with a glass of dark red wine, writing in a leather journal with a dip pen. I purchased my first glass dip pen in a Christmas market seven years ago. Now here I am, almost 20 glass dip pens later, and still searching for new ones I just can't pass up. I try to write with almost all my pens, but I have a few that I keep just for special occasions. I have several that I purchased from shops in Venice (you have to look for those made by Venetians, not in China). My favorites came from one very small family shop in San Paolo square in Venice with superior Venetian quality. The picture attached has a glass tip, but I prefer metal nibs for the lines. I have not been to England, but I imagine that they too have some beautiful pens. Anyone else share my affinity for glass dip pens with metal or glass nibs? :happyberet:

That is a pretty pen! I can see that it could be irresistible.

I have a few glass pens, but no glass pen holders. I had no idea that such a thing existed. You are streets ahead of me.

Your new pen holder is so cool and very unique. Where did you find it? I have never seen one like it. What is it made of? It almost looks like stone, which I imagine would be too heavy.

I found it on ebay. I think it's plastic.... cool, vintage plastic... but plastic none the less. One thing I'm basing that on is that it does not feel cold to the touch.

It's very cool. I am always looking for unique dip penholders on ebay. There is an interesting one I am currently considering, but I don't want to pay this much ... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320635257131&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

By the way, I am considering purchasing an Esterbrook J fountain pen. I know you like the Esterbrook nibs, which I have come to like as well. Have you had any Esterbrook fountain pens? What do you think about them?

Here's another one I like, but seems a bit expensive for acrylic ... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130447256219&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Nice holder! Too bad there are already a couple of bidders.

I like the Esterbrook fountain pens I have -- good working pens -- but don't know that much. There's lots of informaton about them on FPN.

I've bought from that seller before and he's very nice. Also, have you seen the beautiful wood turned dip pen holders from Engen21? http://www.dippens.net/2.html Here's my Engen 21 holder.

Lovely to look at the beautiful dip pens and to imagine people here writing with them.

I have a few but the one that is head and shoulders above the crowd in performance is this glass pen I once received as a gift from a former boss. The text you see in the photo was written with one dip and it stops where the ink ran out. This is the most amazing-writing dip pen I've ever used!

Wow. That's a lot on one dip.

Wow, that is pretty impressive. I seems like it has thin grooves in the tip where the ink is held. My best glass pens that even come close to holding that much ink have this similar characteristic. I am convinced that is the key to glass dip pens.

I only have one dip pen, a small 3-4" glass piece. I originally bought it to test inks with at gathering, but find I enjoy the experience. I'm now looking for a full size holder to carry a glass nib. Or I may just make one when I start making razor scales again :)

I've seen a few interesting glass nibs on Ebite but don't know the quality, not much out there on glass nib'd pens...
