Hooray for the Frontier

Got a Parker Frontier from ebay. Just a simple green translucent plastic one, but I'm impressed!

Unlike the other recently bought pens there's nothing wrong with it. I went for an F nib and it's true, it is actually a Medium Fine nib. But this is exactly what I'm looking for so very happy with that.

The nib is very smooth. So much it surprised me. Depending on what paper you use, it feels like the tip rolls over the it. It is a steel nib so the nib is rather stiff. But for a cheapie it's better than I expected.

And the rubber grip is just right. Not too soft but just good enough to get a decent grip. Very comfortable. Right size for my hand too.

For me this pen could be the final frontier in my search for a lightweight everyday workhorse pen. :)

Ah yes :)

Frontier's a great workhorses which don't cost that much either ;) If you like the way a Frontier writes, but would like the nib to be a tiny bit more springy (even if it's steel) - Have you tried the Parker Sonnets? (with steel nibs).

They are a joy to write with and is a close relative to the Frontier.

Yes, I've read about the Sonnet. But let me enjoy the Frontier first. I'm about €100 overbudget already. Not even counting stationary. :o

BTW. I just found out that up side down the Frontier writes just as good as my Kultur. :D

Lisa-

I was hoping that you'd post about the Frontier when you received it - isn't it a great pen? As you said, it's comfortable in the hand, and what a smooth writer! Try it on Clairefontaine paper for a real treat.

Yep, already tried it on Clairefontain. Wrote my first lines in my new notebook with it.

The nib isn't exactly very fine as I said above but it's officially a F nib. It says so on the feed.

Congrats on obtaining a Frontier, Lisa. You won't regret it.

It's my favourite modern Parker. Dependable, durable, and a very comfortable pen. I'm a big supporter of the Frontier. I have six of those pens and usually have 2 inked at a time. All mine are the Stainless Steel/Gold Plate trim. One has been in constant service for the past three years and still chugs along with no problems.

Now you'll be wanting to get a 51 if you don't have one already ;) My 2 favourite Parkers are the Frontier and original 51.

Enjoy the Frontier. They are great pens.

Regards

Thanks,

I think I will get one for my mum for Sinterklaas (Sort of Christmas come early in the Netherlands, but just the presents, not the spirit and the tree). She has been trying out my pen and was so delighted how well a fountain pen writes and how much better your handwriting looks with a fountain pen. Today she told me she had to write a letter and got a ballpoint and found herself looking for better writing pen. And then realised she did that because she was trying to find a pen that wrote like a fountain pen.

So nice occasion to get her a nice pen. And she really isn't a person that would like to fiddlle with bottled ink so a Frontier with cartridges will be right up her alley.

Frontiers are great.... I have one, and it's one of my faves. ;) it does have a very stiff nib. Mine says F on the feed but it writes more like a medium. Enjoy your pen....

My "fast reply" only 2.5 years later...but I have owned and used a Parker Frontier ballpoint for about ten years. The "gold" has begun to wear off, but the pen is solid as a bull. I love the heft from the brushed metal and the grip from the black rubber.

Therefore, just ordered a Frontier fountain pen.

Just hoping for a typical Parker: dependable.

Can I ask where you're getting it from?

All these posts are making me want one. I just got 3 Parker Reflexes (my favorite) and 3 Parker Vectors (haven't arrived yet). But I've heard lots of great things about the smoothness of the Frontier.

My Parker Reflex is much smoother than my Lamy Safari and while I like my Waterman Phileas, I like the different kind of smoothness of the Parker.

How did you ever find a thread that is two and a half years old?

And, reading this, there is still no indication whatsoever of how to pronounce Frontier in French ;-)

I bought a set of Parker Frontier for my wife years ago in a duty free during the flight to Singapore. The price was ok considering I have some more expensive parker pens. The ballpoint pen is sadly gone already but the fountain pen and the mechanical pencil still work well. The F nib lays a line as thick as my F-nib Duofolds International but definitely a bit thicker than my two old F-nib Sonnets. I just can confirm the Frontier is OK.

Fountain Pen is for people who have a delicate taste in writing
