Parker Sonnet France Iiie

The pen is a swirl pattern. I saw this a fake, in the swirl of the blue ... this is what it looks like! My friend covered in a thin band at the completion of authentic poetry. I know this is an original, because the color is very good, tip is the original.

I just think the engraving is a bit off...

For what it's worth I can't see a problem with the engraving, the photos on Antonios page show the correct engraving and a closer look, especially at the number 5 in the 750 hallmark, convince me that this is the genuine article ;)

 The thing with the engraving is that it's not DEEP enough... it's a bit shallow(though I think it may be the lighting!) Because whenever I take pics, the engraving is quite sharp.

Fingers crossed for Sheaffer’s future

If you've noticed, being told in the board is LOT better than being told when he's showing the collection to someone. I've experienced it with a counterfeit pen...the same finish! I was crooked out when I knew NOTHING about Sonnets. I just knew it was god-looking and expensive. It cost me 100 bucks, and I spent the whole night disappointed over my dad's pen fanatic friend making a funny joke out of me in front of his kids...I don't want anyone made a joke out of in front of someone they know...I know how bad it is.It wasn't until I had completed my 'each pen from the last of the big four' that his stupid kids shut up. I guess you now know where I saw the counterfeit, too...

That's a little harsh, we are all still learning - a wise thing to remember, although it might have been a wise move to ask your Dad's friend for his advice before you bought the fake, but that's probably easy to say in hindsight, I guess we learn from our own mistakes - didn't you try sending it back to Parker for an exchange for the real deal?

As for the assumption, sorry...I've been REALLY worried over my REAL firedance Sonnet's nib...seems the guy who was sending it HAS run out of them! :crybaby: It was my first good pen! I assume you understand how bad it is for the first pen to start your hobby is nib-less now. :bawl:

The Sonnet nibs are widely available, no need to make it redundant. What's wrong with the original nib? If you're looking for a reliable supplier try JM Lewertowski (lewertowski/pensellerfromfrance on ebay)

Yeah, I should have...I couldn't sleep the whole night because of it. As for the nib, it's pretty banged up. A girl dropped it nib-first because of a spat... the nib's tines came out REALLY bent. I'll try the seller, but for Mk1 nibs, I'm REALLY losing hope... :crybaby:

I'm pretty sure JM Lewertowski will have plenty of MK1s, failing that though bent tines can be repaired, there are quite a few 1st rate pen repairers/restorers that are members here on FPN that straighten nibs, assuming of course that you haven't offended any of them already

I'm pleased for the OP that we've concluded that the wide capband is correct, it has the correct colour of nib and that the

only thing that concerns you now (not me ;)) is the depth of the engraving which you now think is possibly down to the lighting. Hopefully if he revisits this thread he'll not be in for a nasty surprise and unecessary disappointment. Enjoy your pen djed

I've just done a little enhancement on the nib in the OP's photo, and to my eye this looks like a legitimate nib.

There are some JPEG artifacts in the OP's photo that could make an inexperienced viewer think the imprint looked a little iffy, but overall the imprint certainly doesn't look fainter than the one on my Sonnet CT Flighter (into which I've fitted an unplated 18K nib like the one on the OP's pen). Everything about the imprint, including the diamond logo, looks authentic to my eye.

The OP's pen is dated 1Q1998, as is my Flighter (pen 26 in Battersea's catalogue), and everything about the color, pattern, and band is correct for that date.

I see nothing in any of the OP's photos that suggests to me that the pen is a counterfeit. But I'm not an expert; I've handled only a couple hundred real Sonnets and a couple dozen counterfeits.

But your stand up act is pretty good. (At least I'd be there watching.)

I'm not sure...guess I'll need better pics then...

BTW WHAT? YOU'RE not an expert??? Second to FPN, your site is the one I visit most! Just love your articles :notworthy1: Plus, I've handled ONE...you've handled HUNDREDS! That means expert to me... never thought I'd actually get to converse with you...! :happyberet:
