Steam Punk Rollerball/fountain Pen

Very clever! Reminds me of these children's books I read as a kid where you'd try to find something specific, like a toy horse, in a sea of mixed-up tiny objects. Anybody know what I'm talking about? (And it's not Where's Waldo)

Absolutly inspired and Daliesque!

Salvatore must be green of envy.

Will you grace us with a picture of the fountain pen?

Will you be willing to make a limited quantity to be sold only to us who are in total awe at the sight of your masterpiece?

I am cururious about the brand of the watch you used because I could not afford a Breitling or a Patek Philippe Time fountain pen :-)

ShakeSpear: I've sold the FP and did not take pics, but I intend to make one or two more, starting next week. They will be for sale. I am thinking of doing one in a dark navy blue and another in something like British Racing Green. As to the make of the watches, I cannot help you. I buy the parts. I don't buy watches and take them apart. I will definitely post pics of any new ones that I make, and we can talk then if you are interested.

Thank you for your compliments.

As a veteran Steampunkian, I strongly second the interest in this pen! I also encourage you to do some more of them, and especially using brass/bronze metallic parts, and maybe replace the red with a darker background.

You have the potential for a winner on this one.

Thank you all again for your kind words. I've done 3 since that one, and ruined two more in the casting process. Such is life for an amateur.

Wow...very interesting design. Definitely catches your eye. Really like how the red works with the silver and gold watch parts. The red is JUST dull enough to bring out the watch parts, but not too bright, yet bright enough to catch your eye. :notworthy1:

Thanks Nonsensical. The red seems to be a love or hate thing. No one has been ho hum on it. I'm working on a cream based one right now, as my wife has suggested that colour is better suited to the era of steampunk.

I'm not sure I agree with your wife. I always associate steampunk with gothic revival rich reds and greens - take a look at the decorations of the UK House of Commons for the green & the House of Lords for the red. The red in the Lords is almost identical to the red you've got.

Regards,

Richard.

Richard: I don't pretend to know what colour is "correct", so I'll not dispute your statement. I like the idea of a cream one mainly because I want to see how the brass parts look against it. That's not to say that I'll like it in the end. Tks for your interest.

Was wondering if you needed to bend any of the gears, or whatnot in order to keep them from poking out of the epoxy?

Scott: All the gears need to be bent to conform with the radius of the tubes. It's a long, slow process.
