I bought my wife a Retro 51 Tornado. It's 4.25 inches long unposted, 6 inches long posted. She really likes it and it goes with her everywhere she goes.

I have the "Curacao" version (pattern) of the Retro 51 "Tornado" fountain pen (thanks, Apollo!) and I love the way the pen looks... and writes. The pen is a wee bit top-heavy when posted, but not too bad....I love the nib on it. It is a dependable wet writer that lays down a smooth (but with a bit of tooth) line :)

That Omas Dama arco is gorgeous!

I saw one of those fine, fine OMAS babies at the Dallas Pen Show and I wanted it soooo bad. It's a beauty.

Well, I'm still very new to the fountain pen scene, but I just got a Kaweco Sport Al and I think it's fairly short. It's about 4 inches capped (I think that is the right term). I got mine from ISellPens.com, but I also know that SwisherPens.com carries it. I'm not affliated with either site.

Just a quick interlude - I asked Pilot UK whether they still did a converter that would do for my potential purchase, here is their reply...

Dear Sir

Thank you for your recent website enquiry.

Whilst Pilot can't replace the 70's MYU701 converter, I can offer a 'Con-20', which is today's equivalent. If you email me your full address then I will gladly post one for you free of charge.

Kind regards,

Rachel

So hats off, a small thing but isn't it great to see ?

If I can get hold of one I'll be sure to post some pictures and review my thoughts,

Andy

That's terrific of Pilot! I hope you love the MYU. :)

The nibs are very, very fine - so you may have to look for an M nib, or widen the tines a fraction and use one of the 'laxative' inks if you want the pen to write a rather wet line.

I like fine and dry lines, so I find the MYU perfect. :)

Wow! That MYU is absolutely fantastic! I want one! So unusual, and very very beautiful in my opinion. It looks like a real quality item too.

fjf: I have 1 Omas Dama (Pearl Gray) and 3 Princess's (Blue La Royale, Saft Green, Scarlet Red) - the celluloid is gorgeous and they are indeed exquisite pens.

The MYU is excellent.  I love mine so much I will likely buy at least one, if not two more in future.  The F nib on mine is perfect - very, very smooth with a very slight variation - it is like a tiny stub and it's one of my "Top 3" nibs.

I am a big fan of Celluloid, especially Italian Celluloid, so I was surprised I loved the MYU so much - but it's just fantastic.

The MYU is the 'short' pen, only the 'long' pen is actually called the Murex.  Both have the integral nib, and several barrel finishes are available, but the MYU is the only one where the lines of the nib are unbroken - the Murex has a slight and gentle fold past the vent hole, and a subtly-textured grip section - to give the feel and appearance of a more traditional point.

You, lucky man! :roflmho: :roflmho: :roflmho:

Wow! those retro 51 are very nice!. First time I see them!

I'm in lust

lisa,

i'll say again that the Meridian is not that small.

But I recommend it as a pen. But I recommend moreso getting one of the gold nib pens. the crystal (the one in the picture) and the carbon black are steel nibs. the champagne and the noir are gold. (they go for approximately the same prices on ebay... )

gold nibs provide a WAY smoother write. After acquiring a few, I don't want a steel nib ever again.

Hi,

The Meridian is a fairly fat pen.

I rather doubt that the gold models have gold nibs. The ones that come here had gold-plated steel ones. If it does not say 14K of 18K or xK or xxK on a modern nib, most of the time, it is not gold.

Wow, this site is awesome, just the types of FP I'm into!

Thanks a Bunch! :)

Just a link to site I found while browsing for a 'smaller' sized FP...

http://www.jean-pierre-lepine.com/index2.asp

There are some small FP's here, very small...have a lok at 'indigo metelcap' and there are a couple here - the IN72F for example.

Anyone else know of any 3/4 sized pens?

For those of you who expressed interest in the MYU, I should mention that I just got my very own Pilot M90 in the mail the other day, and I'm totally in love with it. It's nice and small, totally elegant design, and an absolute pleasure to write with. No quality seems to have been sacrificed in constructing the integrated nib. It's totally smooth. Very highly recommended. (got it as a gift, it was ordered from Swisher Pens, no affiliation but I've had nothing but good experiences buying from them). MYU lovers looking to avoid exorbitant eBay prices: the M90 is your salvation.
