My friend and I were about to order some 1.5 nibs when we noticed that the Writing Desk (no affil.) is having a one day Safari sale and we could get new pens with the 1.5 nib for just a bit more that n the nibs alone. What a deal.

I just added 1.1 italic nibs to a Safari and an Al Star and a 1.5 to a Vista. It transformed the pens from uniform color and line width writers into something totally different. I had ink in the pens when I made the nib change, so it has been interesting. The Safari had Noodler's Red Black and I can now see some interesting shading on white paper. The Al Star had Levenger Skies of Blue and it simply is blue, but with more interesting character. The Vista had Levenger Claret and oh my - it shades wonderfully. My camera is at the office, so no pictures are available.

These pens have been daily writers with the stock nibs, but always left me a little flat - sort of dry, sort of smooth, but not fantastic. Now...wet writers, line variation, smooth, although they "squeek" on some paper! I think the 1.1 italics will still be able to serve as daily writers. The 1.5, likely not as much. The line width is just too broad for most of what I do, but it sure might find use as sort of a amateur calligraphy pen.

Edit: I just posted a couple of cell phone pics on my blog.

I knew you guys (and gals) were the right ones to ask. I think I have settled on the 1.5

Keep the pics coming if you have them.

I suggest you get yourself this Lamy Joy set. It contains all three nib sizes and is just awesome!

Since I own it I haven't used my other Lamy nibs anymore.
