Pilot CH 92 = one of my favourite pens (with a B nib)!

I agree, I have the Kirisame smoked black version with a B nib that is permanently kept loaded with Montblanc Blue-Black ink. Right size, right weight, right everything. :)

In case you wish to write to me, pls use ONLY email by clicking here. I do not check PMs. Thank you.

The CH 92's piston is perfect. I can fill the pen almost 100% for the first try and the piston moves very smoothly. I cannot imagine this piston will experience the stiffness some of more expensive piston pens go through after a few years of use.

they will pull straight out. first check slit if pen is dry.

I had to widen the tines slightly. After slided in some pieces of paper between the tines (one piece at a time), I slided in 2 pieces of paper again (for each piece for each of the tines) and pulled them gently. Now, the flow is impeccable.

I do really want to get this pen but I want it with either a SFM or SM nib. Why can't pilot just put one of those nibs in? they already make them.

I got the Custom 92 pen yesterday. Ocean Blue translucent color and with a medium nib. Must say it's a charm for those who are charmed.

Sharing some inky thoughts along the lines in my blog (as uploading the pictures and writing is a bit easier there)

  • 2 weeks later...

I got one of these 2 days ago too (it's been ages since I bought a pen). Mine is the clear transparent version with a FM nib - I was on the lookout to get a demonstrator for some reason.

It skipped a little initially when I was testing in the shop but after some slight adjustments to the tines it writes beautifully. I decided to just get it. It is now inked with Iroshizu Yama Budo :)

I fear this pen will start me on another slippery slopes journey but that's another story....

I find that the my fm nib behaves differently depending on the paper I use. On cheap paper, it behaves more like a F, giving less ink flow with normal pressure, but more like a M and more wet on better paper.

I dont know if that helps, but the performance of the pen depends on 3 things:

1/3 the pen itself

1/3 ink

1/3 paper

I received my CH 92 on Friday, so have had it for 2 days. I bought the clear demo with a M nib. I was promoted to buy it after falling in love with my Custom 823 in Amber with a B nib. I find the B nib on the 823 a little too wet at times for days when I need to take heaps of notes, which was the main reason I bought it. However, it's such a great pen I decided to try the CH 92.

Well, this pen is perfect for me. It looks simple and understated and the size and weight make it comfortable for long periods of writing. As a left-hander I struggle with dry or finer nibs and this M nib is wet and produces a perfect line. I also think the pen is well made. I can see I've found my perfect "heavy note taking" pen.

My quest for a demonstrator with a good ink capacity started with 2 TWSBI 540s (Blue & Clear), both with M nibs. I really liked these pens. Despite the fact I am careful and gentle with my pens, they both cracked (where the filling knob meets the pen body) within a few weeks of purchase, after minimal use. I thought about replacement parts but never got around to asking for them partly because I wasn't confident that I wouldn't have more trouble.

My challenge now is to stop myself from buying more 92's as I don't have time to use the 70 or so pens I have (which I can't sell because they're all special in their own way). However, my broken TWSBI's can now go in the bin as I've stopped looking at them longingly.

+1

I love my Custom 92. I have the FM nib which is a great compromise. The 92 is the perfect size for me & a very well made pen.

I love all my Pilots. All reliable & smooth, straight from the box.

Does anyone have writing samples of the medium nib?

I am currently away for work. I can post some pics over the next few days when I return if no-one else has. In summary, I'd say it is slightly broader than the Platinum M on my #3776 pens, but not as Broad as Visconti, Lamy, Pelikan, MB Medium nibs.

I don't have the 92 in medium - I do have it with an FM nib. Here is sample writing, plus a comparison with other Pilot nibs. I hope it helps.

Notes:

Written on Tomoe River

Inks: Sailor Kobe #44; Sailor Oku-yama; Pilot Blue; Pilot Black

Thanks. Got my soft medium nib today. It is very nice. The FM might have been better as the SM is quite wet. However from your sample it seems the FM is much closer to M than to F so not much difference.

Now you've got me wanting a sutab....

I agree - the FM is closer to medium & has a very nice smooth springy feel.

I just love my sutab nibs. I have one on the 912 and one on my 742. They are #10, as opposed to the #5 on the Custom 92. I did a writing sample of my 742 here https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/262669-pilot-custom-742-sutab/

Go get one - they are fantastic ex-stock stubs.

I wish. I need to trim my collection and have been saving up for a Nakaya or Sailor KOP.

Thank you so much; that picture is invaluable. I have a Pilot 78g in medium, which I believe has the same nib as the Prera, and I love that. I am trying to decide between the FM and the M; I am not fond of very fine nibs, but the FM looks great.

I know the Prera has a steel nib and the Custom 92, a gold nib, but how would you compare your writing experiences with both pens? Thank you again.
