Pilot Dr. Grip Refills Fit What 'nice' Pen?

Hi,

Ok, a friend uses the Pilot Dr. Grip Center of Gravity pens; the refill seems to be some kind of pressurized ink possibly...

anyway, it writes better than the standard ballpoints. Yes, I know that isn't saying a whole lot.

Does anyone know of a nicer pen chassis than the Dr. Grip Center of Gravity that can use these refills? They are NOT

G2 sized, as the refills for other Dr. Grips seem to be, these are shorter.

Ideas, thoughts, yes, no?

Thanks,

Scott

p.s. Will someone let the FP purists back in? Thanks.

They seem to be an odd size. And they're not as good as the G2 refills IMO. Though the G2 is the same size as the MB rollerball, it's not as good. And even the Montblanc RB refill can't hold a finger to refillable rollerballs, which can't even be compared to even the lowly Platinum Preppy.

I've called the FPN police about this topic, and they'll be paying you a little visit with their nightsticks right along. :W2FPN:

Not an issue, as I have a cleverly disguised pit trap near my door, filled with upward pointing BICs as punji sticks! :ninja:

They do seem to be shorter than what we would consider 'normal'. I like these for some things, the G2s for others, it all depends. I can't really comment on your comparison chain, as even the lowly Preppy would not be suitable for some of the writing I do (small writing on very questionable paper) so the need for a non-FP variant still exists.

Thanks for commenting though.

I've not seen one - are they the same width as a G2? If so, maybe you can just use a wooden dowel trimmed to the correct length as a shim to use it in any pen that fits a G2.

I just checked; they do seem to be the same width as a G2, or extremely close, so the dowel idea might work, thanks!

I'll have to do some delicate woodworking to make the shim (where did I put my chain saw?) :headsmack:

since the back of the Pilot DR Grip is not hollow, just simply stick a thin aluminum rod or something like that and it will fit.

Um, I'm not sure I understand what you wrote. Did you mean the back of the refills are not hollow? Yes, I knew the backs of both the Dr. Grip and G2 refills were closed, and I was aware of how a dowel works. I guess I'm missing your point?

wait... do you want to use it in a retractable RB or in a capped rollerball?

if you're going to be using it in a retractable rollerball, then it's advisable to make a holder for the refill since the refill's going to be knocked around a lot. But if it's just a capped rollerball, then an aluminum rod cut to the appropriate size will probably be the fastest solution.

And if you're wondering what pen bodies can use the Pilot G2, it's pretty much anything that uses a Montblanc refill or a Lamy Rollerball refill and many more. But AFAIK those are the two primary ones.

So yep. take that Lamy Studio rollerball, stick a dowel up the barrel and then the refill.

Hopefully that helped.

Scott, those can be used in Pilot Knight ballpoints. I have one and it is quite nice. They also have a rollerball that uses G2s and a really nice FP that uses special Pilot cartridges. The FP is smooth and it writes a fairly thin line, almost like a roller ball line.

I didn't think of the Knight ballpoints; I do have a G2 in a Knight RB that writes splendidly. So the Knight BP refill is the same as the Grip's?

I tried a Knight FP and found it a bit wide for my tastes, then again, I have a few 78Gs in F that I think are a bit wide, which goes to show you how small I tend to write. Then again, I do recall somewhere in the forums reading a 78G nib will fit in a Knight FP...something to consider!

Thanks for the help,

Scott
