Very interesting because USA made jotters were not date coded until 1979 or thereabouts, which means you have a very late example of a brass threaded jotter from 1984. Parker can be quite quirky with their consistency but I doubt they would be 5 years out - 1974 to 1979. Are you sure this model is not a Parker Classic

Yes, this particular pen is a Parker Classic, and not a Jotter.

I learned the differences between the two only from farther up this thread itself, and although I now know the differences between the Classic and Jotter, I had no idea that it would make any difference in determing the date with the codes.

Very important bit of information to know Jotters were not date coded until 1979.

Thanks.

Again, slightly incomplete info - NO USA made parker pens were datecoded until 1979 including Jotters, so it actually wouldn't make any difference date code wise. The suspicion about the Parker Classic was because these have always had brass threads in the caps whereas Jotters had really finished their brass thread stage by 82/83, so a Classic with the date code 'IE' would be far more likely than a Jotter with date code 'IE'. Fox your Classic is starting to attain star status.

... oh, Fox (or anyone else) how did/do you get your capital 'I's to show in that different font which shows them top and tailed?

I really appreciate all this clarification and helpful information. Thank you.

Fist I type the character.

Then go back and highlight just that character, and go up to the section above the box you enter this text in, and pull down that FONTS box above and select a font for the character that will give it that classic look.

Then just PREVIEW POST to make sure it looks like you want it, before you hit ADD REPLY.

Here are a few different I's

I - Times New Roman

I - Courier New

I - Century Gothic

I - Book Antiqua

Courier New seems to have the look we wanted, so just highlight the I and pick Courier New from teh FONTS pull down menu and an I turns into an I

It is genuine from the UK Era. US Parkers had the recessed button described above and brass bushings/threads, UK Jotters have white plastic bushings, and French Jotters (current) have no P on the pushbutton and either darker plastic or perhaps metal bushings. So what you have there is a UK Jotter. They are still available in stores until the stock runs out, then the French Jotters will take over.

Jotters have disappeared from the Walmarts, Staples, Target, and CVS drugstores by me. Its very odd..one day they

were there and the next they are no longer sold.

Thus my advice above, that when you find something you like, buy as many as you can.

The Jotters may return, but the next time you see one, it will be marked: "Made in China"

Hopefully that nightmare of "made in China" Jotters will not happen and they will keep making them in France for years to come...
