Montblanc - Royal Blue

I just picked up a bottle of MBRB and loaded up a new Lamy "Vista" with a M nib and just love what this ink does. I am a big fan of blue ink's and am enjoying the great shading I get with this pen.

Sandy, I really think your reviews are the best ones on the FPN. You really go into great detail to supply the reader with all the important information. I wish that there was a "sticky" with all of your reviews. That way it would be easier for everyone to have access with just a click of the mouse. I wonder how much time it takes you to write and test all the inks for your reviews.

Anyways, please keep up the great work!!!!

I have been using this ink for quite a while in my Montblanc 145 as well as a Lamy Logo, Waterman Kultur and a Pelikan M200. The color to my taste is not very special, I like Herbin Eclat de Saphir better. Also it tends to be not very well behaved on lesser quality paper types (at least compared to my Herbin inks as well as Waterman). The big plus in my opinion on the MB inks is the great and practical bottle design...this is what it should be like! I might even put my Herbin in this bottle...;-)

Thanks for the great review. I can't wait until the 10 major brand blues are compared. I'm leaning towards Viaconti.

Original Cheapo here. When I got my MB at the B&M I put Pelikan 4001 in it at the store a nice safe ink.

When I got it back from nib exchange I put in at the store MB Royal Blue.

So I got one whole pen load to play with.

Using the back of my old cheap copy papers, which I do for my scribbling, it was blah. The MB B was writes about as wide as my wide writing Pelikan 605 BB. :headsmack:

I'd had an M, that on certain papers wrote B on others M. Now I got look for skinny paper and ink.

Nib width does play a large role.

I went to my 'good' paper a 35 year old Gohrsmuuehle Bankpost white matte 80 gs/m. There is that tad towards purple that gives it a bit more pizazz.

I've returned the paper to the package, for when ever I ink up with Pelikan Royal Blue.

I have a semi-flex M with Waterman Florida Blue that does not give as much color change on the old German paper as MB Royal Blue.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

I'd not even considered this ink before your review, Sandy. Great review, and thank you for bringing it to my attention. On the other hand, darn you for likely making me spend more money on ink!

Hi,

Many thanks for sharing your experiences, and observations.

The OOTT Series lets one compare the inks from ten inks from the same six pens on four 'core' papers. So I hope that of the 240 Written Samples you are able to find a 'skinny ink and paper'!

The OOTT Series is complete, and the Summary can be found HERE.

Also, if I review more Blue inks, I intend to include at least one of the same pens and papers that I used in the OOTT Series - that might give some common ground for comparison.

Thanks for a great review. This is one of my go to inks. It works well in my Pelikan M205, giving a nice bright blue compared to some others. (cf Noodlers Eel). Good solid ink. No troubles.

I do not like WM Florida Blue, CdA Sky Blue & hate Sheaffer Blue Skrip.

On the other hand I just adore Sailor Ultramarine. This old MBRB is available

at a reasonable price, keeping your fab review in mind should I buy this

old bottle (NOS) Mont Blanc Royal Blue?

So I am just going to put this out there. I have wanted to a very long time and held my tongue. The problem is not just Ink Putti, but a whole host of insider-y talk that would require a long session with the search engine.

Who/what is kushbaby? What does Majik refer to? What billet doux has to do with anything? There are always a handful of things in your reviews that sound like coded messages to some secret society. I love your funny, informative and thorough reviews but find that one aspect of it somewhat off-putting.

There, I have said it. Sure to regret it later but there it is.

So, rather than repeat myself, which I find is duller than dishwater, one may use the FPN search results to compile a multi-faceted depiction of the Ink Putti. [Title Case added.]
