Not really, although it can provide some very rough guidance. They stopped making 146 pens in the 1960s, and the nibs are quite different.

My 146 does not have the holes to its left and right, and it has the long window and G engraving. I thought it was one of the older versions but wasnt sure. Now that your chart shows the same I am more confident.

What is the difference between Early Plastic and Plastic? How to differentiate them? My 146 falls in either 95 or 96... I couldn't nailed the year.

Is there a reason Montblanc 149 PT is always $30-$40 dollars more expensive than Montblanc 149 GT version in all popular shops like Appleboom? Ditto, $146 PT > $146 GT. Are there any quality or nib life differences between PT and GT?

My understanding is that when the Platinum version was introduced platinum value was substantially higher than gold. That changed during the recession and now gold trades higher than platinum. But MB has not reflected this in their pricing, because, well, Montblanc.

Must be it. Thank you. For some reason, I never liked the look or feel or even the color of gold for jewelry. But it simply is beatiful on large black fountain pens when used sparingly. Especially nibs. Nibs are a religion.

I have not been able to read every page but can someone tell me about this particular feed? Looks like an early plastic BUT there is what seems to be an A on two different spots on the feed.

Hello Ray. It is indeed an early plastic feed, from about 1992 to 1996 when MB switched to the next version. The letters are lilely just to inform which machine in a factory made the feed. I have not seen any other attributes or meaning ascribed to such letters on the feed.
