Is there an ink on the slightly charcoal side of black? Bold but not a jet black?

Tony

If you mean the dark grayish color of burning charcoal, then I'd recommend Sailor Gray.

If you mean the charcoal grey used for fabrics (like the dark grey wool that's almost black, made with some black threads),

you might want to try Diamine Grey in a fine nib. I just got it and first tried it in a Sailor 1911M EF. It reads as almost black,

and doesn't seem very greenish.

Okay, a new update on the Grey Flannel. My wife and I stopped back into Bertram's Inkwell in Baltimore this afternoon where I had bought the ink. I asked Jim Rouse for a nice black and explained my dislike of the PR Grey Flannel and how watery it was. Jim immediately said that maybe I got a bad bottle. He grabbed one off the shelf, openned it and said does it look like this? Mine didn't his was deep and rich, almost black. Mine was a transparant black cherry. he asked where I bought it <g>. I told him there, just a few days before. I explained I didn;t have it with me, nor did I save the receipt. Jim instantly handed me the new bottle said take it and bring me the old one whenever I am back his way.

Great customer service, especially as Jim did not wait on me the other day and had no idea if I bought it there or not. The new ink is very much to my liking now!

If in Baltimore or Kennsington MD give Bertrams a try. They do mail order as well.

I bought this ink from Pendemonium when they were having their post-holiday sale. I've put it in two pens - a Pilot 78G/broad and a Pilot Knight/medium. While I like the color, the ink does not lubricate as well as other Private Reserve inks.
