FPN Ink Label!!!!!!

Here's a "Noodler's" I wrote with a turkey quill.. I don't think he used turkey, but that's all I had at the moment.

Ooooooh, that would look great as "Noodler's Ink" in HyperCamper's renditon.

 

BTW, if we go with the handwriting, we will send an ink sample so ink can be done with the actual FPN ink!

I think it should be re-colored in Photoshop, because the quill lays down much more ink than fountain pens.

Eppur si muove.  ("Even so, it moves" -- referring, of course, to the Earth's moving around the Sun.)

I like the signature OR the retraction, with a simple "Manuscript Brown" and Hana's beautiful portrait.

 

The signature AND the retraction would make the label too busy. Maybe just the retraction would be enough: the name and the signature are redundant with the portrait.

 

My theory is that in design, less is more.

What would the Latin be for "even so, it writes"?

It would be (in Italian): Eppur si scrive. Kinda witty.

Here's my two cents (or should I say "eurocents"?)...

 

I've incorporated quite a few of the ideas that are buzzing around as well as Hana's beautiful creations.

I've made this image to fit the standard Noodler's label (29mm x 41,5 mm).

Nifty. Way cool! Visual design is not my forte, but... would it be an improvement to eliminate the manuscript writing that underlies the "Galileo Manuscript Brown" and the FPN and Noodler's logos? Just a sold background the color of the manuscript paper might look cleaner, less busy. Keep the writing that surrounds the portrait, of course.

 

Also, since this is going to be an Eternal ink, I'd think Nathan would want that word to appear somewhere on the label -- unless "Manuscript" is going to be a new synonym for "Eternal" and "Contract" -- perish the thought.

On the smaller bottles, he uses the side panels for a lot of information. Maybe it would go there.

 

I agree about taking the manuscript image out of the background. This is an ink bottle label, not an encyclopedia entry.

 

Also, I would stick with Eppur si muove. Si scrive is clever, but why? I hate one-upping the dead. Especially my dead heroes.

I read you, Bill. If the idea -- well, one of the ideas, anyway -- is to pay tribute to G.G., then we should stick to his words. (Or supposed words. The quote is generally thought to be apocryphal. Chi sa? Makes a good story.)

Seriously, I think this quote is also out of the context of an ink. The surface of that label is small enough, his signature should be sufficient ...

I agree, and in Italian it would be Eppur, scriviamo; besides, Eppur, si scrive is not really correct: "muoversi" (to move oneself) is the reflexive form of verb "muovere" (to move), but there is really no reflexive form of verb "scrivere" (to write).

True. What I had in mind was not the reflexive, but the impersonal, use of si. As in Come si scrive...? (How does one write...?), or Si scrive che... (It is written that...). Here, I was thinking that Eppur si scrive would mean, "Yet one writes." But maybe it doesn't work.

 

The original quote resonates. Or, no quote. As Bill said, less is more.

I think my favorites are the Sustermans portrait and Galileo's handwriting. It's hard to choose between these two. The other paintings are beautiful. I just wonder how much detail would show up on a small ink bottle label.
