I think that would be great. Make the bottle look like something that he would have used himself.

 

I always see those european healthcare labels that just look so vintage it would be great.

I LOVE IT.... total class well befitting the official FPN ink.....

 

Well .... maybe not really befitting the FPN membership... in that case I think the ink would need to have a childproof cap...

Is by H.W. Wyatt, early 1800s if memory serves. There's an engraving of it by Samuel Sartain which is more frequently reproduced --- if you can find a copy of the engraving to scan you're all set.

But I do believe that our Hana has nailed the label with her (his?) lovely rendering of the Sustermans portrait and -- unbelievable! -- her skillful "forgery" of G.'s signature. Amazing! (So much for this ink being "fraudproof". :roflmho: ) With her artistry and your typographical skills, we should be home free.

With due respect to Kurt, I have reservations about the fake olde Englishe. Even if it's real old English, what does it have to do with Galileo? He wrote in Italian or Latin. "Galileo Manuscript Brown" over the FPN URL would suffice, IMO.

 

If we wanted to put some "Galilean" text on the label in addition to his likeness and his "forged signature" (love it!), it should be the devastatingly succinct retraction of the recantation that is often attributed to him: Eppur si muove. ("Even so, it moves" -- referring, of course, to the Earth's moving around the Sun.)

 

BTW, here's his real signature (if Google is to be believed):

I just threw the olde Englishe in there more as a place keeper than anything else. I figured the wording would have to be confirmed before a final label is made.

I love Hana's rendition of Galileo and the idea of using Galileo's signature on the label (why not just below the potrait?) I don't think we have to use any other script written by him, just the signature should be OK.

I like the signature OR the retraction, with a simple "Manuscript Brown" and Hana's beautiful portrait.

 

The signature AND the retraction would make the label too busy. Maybe just the retraction would be enough: the name and the signature are redundant with the portrait.

 

My theory is that in design, less is more.

I told my husband what we were all up to on this post, and he's thrilled but had to throw this out: "Why are you guys going with Galileo? Why not Archimedes' palimpsest since they are currently studying it?"
