And we could try "forging" (lol) Galileo's writing for the label font, like this (This is just my quick example):

Here's a my little charcoal version of the painting by Sustermans

umenohana, love your illustration and I think the "handwriting" idea for the title is great!

Could we possibly appeal to James Pickering to pen some of Galileo's writings on the label? What more fabulous treasure could we have on our writing desks?

Would anyone have the dimensions of the label that will be used on the bottles for this ink??

Labels on regular Noodler's bottles are 29 x 41,5 mm. The printing (inkjet printer?) is not waterproof - at least my Ottoman Azure label washed out and came off when I rinsed the bottle.

Labels on eyedropper bottles are 62x 75 mm.

Great photo, Viseguy - that's the one I was trying to get but couldn't! Happy you were able to post it :)  :eureka:

Thanks, Kelly. I sure wish I could identify the artist! :bonk: I sent the picture to the N.Y. Public Library's "Ask Librarians" service and asked them to identify it and, also, if they know whether the image is in the public domain or who owns the copyright. If they come back with any useful info., I will certainly post it here.

Cool!

If "manuscript" is part of the name (the 1st post in this thread says FPN Galileo Manuscript Ink), I think part of the manuscript is more fitting than anything else if it is legally usable. I don't think it needs to be decipherable.

Best, Ann

I agree! However, if we go with a manuscript, it would nice to find something that is NOT his recantation. This was something a member presented a long while ago when the idea for the ink was in it's infancy and I was too lazy to find a more suitable sample of his writing.

I like the Spanish image for its clarity and strength, and for the prominence of the quill and inkwell.

BTW, do we know how and by who the FPN logo will be incorporated into the overall design?

Amazing the prompt and comprehensive input from members (and this has probably been just the beginning).

I'm not sure. The label will cover 3 sides of the bottle, so perhaps the logo and url can be on one side panel.

I've looked around and you can find a lot of examples...

For example HERE. Copyright and permissions information is quite clear. Also look at the attached pictures (courtesy of Wikipedia).

Great site, I'm going to have fun looking through all those scans. And if we decide to use it, the info on asking for permission is right there!

My two cents is that I like one of the portraits, and I think it would show up well on the label as a pen and ink drawing. I also think channeling Galileo's spirit to "forge" the ink's name on the label would be great. Are stamps copyrighted? I found a stamp with his portrait online that might be an interesting twist. Google Image "Galileo Stamp" for some other examples. I thought it might tie in nicely with the whole writing theme of our community.

Arguing with an engineer is a lot like wrestling with a pig in the mud. After a while, you realize the pig likes it.

I think that would be great. Make the bottle look like something that he would have used himself.

I always see those european healthcare labels that just look so vintage it would be great.

Ooooh, nice! I like this for the name on the label, together with Umenohana drawing!

I love this as it is!!!! Ok, contest over, cut and print!!

Uh, ok, delusions of grandeur curbed. Brainstorming process continues.
