FPN Ink Label!!!!!!

Admin

Recommended Posts

I've scrolled trough all (well, a lot of) the pages and like this one best:

Because the picture is on top. If you put the picture in the middle it looses its artistry and professional feel a bit. IMO of course. ;)

Maybe I missed it, but when can one place an order? And when do you figure it will actually ship?

I love the colour!

What a great idea for this group!!

But I have a question. We create an image in our minds (well at least I do) of a colour for ink on old documents, from examining...well, ink on old documents. But that really gives us little idea of what the ink would have looked like when it was freshly written.

It is similar to the time I had my oak floors refinished. They are in a 65 year old house and the original finish was still on them, because my parents covered them with the then fashionable wall to wall carpeting in the 1950s. This did two things - preserved the surface beautifully, and caused me a couple of days of pain in the back from spending the time on my belly pulling all the carpet staples out of the hardwood floors prior to refinishing them.

But I digress. The point is that the refinishers offered me a range of stains from quite dark (the way they looked with 65 year old finish on them) to quite pale (the way they would have looked when first installed). They said that everyone forms their impressions of what a wood floor SHOULD look like, from looking at old floors that bear little resemblance to what the appearance was when new. So all of these people are refinishing their freshly sanded like new floors to look like 60 year old floors.

I have to wonder if the sort of colour we are talking about here is 'like new' or 'like old', and the only way anyone could tell would be to have the recipe for the original style of ink, mix it up and look at what it produces.

Is that the case here, or are we looking at a recreation of aged manuscript inks?

Either way, I do like the look.

The announcement and order info should be up very soon. Possibly later today.

Once we have 80 pre-paid orders we will order the ink (we are not limited to 80 bottles!). So it depends on how quickly people order and if we have enough demand. Nathan said we should have the ink within a week. Then it's a matter of shipping it.

Preview reviews should be up soon as well. But we are dealing with some hacker issues, so that may be bumped down a little in priority.

Edit: The announcement

This is almost certainly the "like old" option. I think the ink Gallileo used would have been an iron-gall ink, and would brown with age. It probably went on black.

So if you have a lot of ink,

You should get a Yink, I think.

If so, then we need to decide whether the spelling should be:

E pure si muove

Eppure si muove

Eppur' si muove

or

Eppur si muove

All of the above are correct/defensible; the last is the most common, I believe.  ("Epure" is wrong.)

"Eppur' si muove" is also wrong (at least in modern Italian): no need for an apostrophe when you drop the final "e" in "pure" or "eppure". In my view the options should be:

"E pur si muove" (more acoustically pleasant than "E pure si muove")

"Eppur si muove" (more acoustically pleasant than "Eppure si muove")

If it's ok with you guys, I'll make a new draft using this label.

Hana, could you send me a version with the highest possible resolution?

Kissing, I like the oval. This lable has really evolved has it not? Oh, by the way I've ordered my ink, have you?

Sal's Fountain Pens and Meat Market

Where is that? I need to pay it a visit (it sure perked up my dog's attention. She needs a new Core to replace one she put a few toothmarks in).

Great work on the label. I need to get my order in.
