After a few years of looking and dreaming- no thanks to Sean!

Finally found the perfect 149 demo for me.

Late 80's likely with plastic feed and nib like my Hemingway.

It is a dream come true- i will post a slideshow in Sean's demo thread I think

Very nice, hope you would share more pics with us

Congrats

Thanks max

Seeing that photo again reminds me how much I love this pen.

It hasn't left my rotation this year.

Just purchased a 244 Tiger's Eye from Maxpens. It is gray with a B nib. I have been using it for the last 2 days.

Not a FP but still a Montblanc... The Starwalker Resin ballpoint. I am happy that I bought it, and am still amazed about how good the Montblanc broad ballpoints write! I tried several others, but this is still the best ballpoint refill on the market today, by far.

Just bought a NIB Faulkner on eBay. Really bugs me as I said I wouldn't buy a WE pen of an author that I didn't like, and I loathe Faulkner.

But the pen is so nice.

And I respect him... so I guess that's ok :headsmack:

Too many pens; too little writing.

Hahaha. Congrats! I was "watching" that pen and was about to make a purchase also, but you beat me to it.... From TheValueClub right? Use it in good health.

Alan

Just bought a Collodi.

It will be secreted away for the next 14 3/4 years, only to be retrieved for my daughter's 15th birthday.

Hope she likes it.

May I suggest an alternative? Use the Collodi to keep a journal of her earliest years, the ones she probably will not remember. Write it when she is asleep, so she will never see the pen. When she's 15, present the journal and the special pen you used for it.

Anyway, congratulations with your purchase. The Collodi is my most recent purchase as well, and it's rapidly becoming a daily writer. Heavy cap, well-balanced pen.

For the record: I thought this was as incredibly moving suggestion.

I passed it to my wife (along the lines of: "oh, isn't FPN amazing?") and she instantly took offense. She agreed I should write, but not with the Collodi.

Her argument was that I have a million inked pens; the very fact that my daughter would be the first to ink the Collodi would make it more special.

Not sure if she's got a point or not.

Having a million inked pens cannot be a good starting position for an argument with one's wife. I suppose the inevitable conclusion is that she is "right." ;)

On the other hand, may I point out that my father's choice of nibs was not mine? He adored needle fines, while I find a B rather narrow. And inheriting a NOS pen that may need work while 15 years out of warranty may be frustrating. I've now had issues with 2 of my WE pens in the first 3 years of ownership, whereas the 146s and 149s seem indestructible.

The Faulkner had a piston leak in the first year which caused ink to seep from both section and piston knob. The Shaw's piston knob came off in my hand just outside the warranty window. :headsmack: I'm starting to wonder if they're engineering the piston mechanisms to stand up to daily usage given the much heavier weight of the metal pens. :hmm1:

It's lovely wanting to spoil your baby girl with such luxuries. I'd recommend putting the money aside at any interest rate you can get these days and letting it compound so your daughter can have something REALLY nice when she's of an age to appreciate.

Well, it's been one of those oddball days...

But I'm now waiting on a Thomas Mann and a Cervantes.

Weird and wild... :yikes:

"Here was a man who had said, with his wan smile, that once he realized that he would never be a protagonist, he decided to become, instead, an intelligent spectator, for there was no point in writing without serious motivation." - Casaubon referring to Belbo, Foucault's Pendulum.

Wasn't going to buy anything until the dust settled on the 149 purchase, but....

I just sent off the 220 for service (had some cracks, and after flushing it, I couldn't get it to keep writing....

Today I grabbed a Noblesse SS Rollerball for $50

It's got a nice weight, and of course, the MB refills write like a dream. I can take this one to work and not worry TOO much about it walking away.

I've got my finger on the trigger for a 146, but -- I need to play with the 149 for a little while longer.

In the past 14 days, Hemingway #3, POA Joseph (sent for nib change from M to BB), Agatha Vermeil, 149 #10 (price too good to pass up), Julius 888 and, perhaps this weekend, a 149 demonstrator (see other thread) :)

After sampling one at Neiman Marcus, I've got the Collodi on my Wish List -- anniversary and Birthday coming up in a few months.....a boy can hope....I agree, though; she should be the first to ink the pen.
