What's Your Most Recent Mb Purchase?

After 18 months of paying off debt, and only having 4 more to go to be debt free, my wife and I fell off the wagon last week and I ended up with a Wilde, a Woolf and a Bernstein. All within an hour. I can't play with them until Christmas and my birthday next year, but I do have them.

Wow. Nice spending spree. Hope you've not loaded yourself up with debt though. What was the rationale for buying them all now if you're not going to start using them until Xmas and your birthday next year?

I personally don't understand going into debt for "non-necessary items". You end up paying a fortune in interest which ultimately leaves you with less nice things in the long run.

The short version of the story is this. We had to spend money on a repair for a house we do not live in but are renting to someone while we are working out of the country. It was an unforeseen expenditure that we had the money for. We both were kind of mad at the situation and just broke down and spent a lot more than we should have that day. She was able to get a ring she has been trying to find for a long time that will be her 10th anniversary gift for a really good price. Then she felt bad that she got something but did not get me anything so she told me to get the pens that I had been looking at. After it was all said and done we both felt really bad about it and could not even look at each other for a little while. Luckily we can pay for it all by the end of the month and be back on track to pay off all our past debt by November.

I told her about my earlier post and she laughed at the enabler part. Her comment was that if I had not listened to her and started paying off our past mistakes I would never be able to have any of the things that I really want. She is right! (Don't tell her I said that)

I couldn't resist the temptation of a brand new, boxed Diaries & Notes old style 2 pens pouch, natural tan color. It perfectly accommodates 2 of my 149s, and the natural leather color of the pouch give to my pens a very "light" and unserious aspect. It is a sturdy case, and I really like it. Thanks to Darius, Blade Runner, kaisede and Sunflowers to share their invaluable information (unobtainable in the official website) about Montblanc case fittings.

a lovely case.

I must say I am quite disappointed by my Siena 2 pen case which struggles with larger pens.

Where did you find this one

?

Yes, I am! My wife is an enabler to my addiction. She now wants to start buying the WE pens in the sets so that she can use the BP or RB since she does not like to use FP's. This makes me happy.

You have an adorable wife. My wife won't stand in my way when I want to buy something, but certainly will not encourage me. Haha

sounds very familiar- I'll stop there

I bought this in a shop in Costa Rica, which sell Montblanc, Dunhill and some other jewelry. They had a few old cases.

Shopping around in Kuala Lumpur and came across something I couldn't resist in a timepiece shop. I was surprised to find not one but 3 of 146R and I took the only unique one, with a 18k nib. Can't wait to try it ink it soon. :roflmho:

Also a bottle of Lavender Purple and Irish Green

Very nice! Mine has a fine nib.

I am getting a 146 Medium nib (monotone nib---probably from the 1980's). It's in the mail.

Sweet! That's on my wish list too... show us some pics when you've received it.

I've recently picked up a 149 at a good price, new and comes with a F nib. I was ready to send it for a nib exchange to perhaps an OBB but I was surprise at how good the F nib is and find it hard to let go. If fact, I'm even considering EF nib, something I would not even think of before I tried this F nib.

I guess I have 6 weeks to consider it

Nice shot of your new pen. I love my 149 Fine. If you love how it writes, I'd keep it. I'd also be reluctant to give a nice writing nib. That'll give you an excuse to get another 149 with different nibs later. :meow:

Congratulations on your MB 149 Sidestreaker. I find my MB 149, F nib, to be just perfect with my A5 MB organiser at work. The paper is superb with MB ink and the F nib enables me to keep my writing neat and legible, whether writing notes during a meeting or completing/reviewing my organiser/diary. Hope you find such enjoyment with yours if you decide not to exchange.

i say keep it too. I have OBB and use it some times because the writing is just too big for my everyday usage.

I find myself using F most of the time.

The 149 is on my "to buy" list. That was the first Montblanc I ever used and I've wanted one ever since. I should have bought that one when I had the chance. Live and learn.

They had one more in the same color. I do not remember if I paid 90 or 94 dollars for it.

Congratulations for your new pen. You will never regret having a 149! If your F nib is good, keep it! Having a nib that works well for you, in the EF-F-M size, will probably convert it in your most used pen. You almost surely will buy other 149s in the future, because they are simply so perfect... Then you can have a broad nib, and also an EF and... do not forget M! There are good reasons for MB having the M nib as the standard one: it is a real multi-task, perfect nib.

Thanks for the encouragement guys, using this at work yesterday has convinced me that this is it. I think I'll keep the nib! :)

Beautiful. Congratulations on the purchase on the 'fine' nibbed 149.

The extra-fine isn't actually that much finer than the F - and take into account of nib variability sthey are all hand finished. The extra-fine has perhaps a subtle bit more line variation on the cross stroke and is only a hair width's finer.

As to how I know? I have three three EF or F nibbed MB 149's

In Rotation: MB 146 (EF), Noodler's Ahab bumblebee, Edison Pearl (F), Sailor ProGear (N-MF)

In storage: MB 149 (18k EF), TWSBI 540 (B), ST Dupont Olympio XL (EF), MB Dumas (B stub), Waterman Preface (ST), Edison Pearl (0.5mm CI), Noodler's Ahab clear, Pilot VP (M), Danitrio Densho (F), Aurora Optima (F), Lamy 2000 (F), Visconti Homo Sapiens (stub)

And some mediums are quite similar to fines. You get the real difference with broad and wider, not only for wider lines, but also stubbish line variation.
