What's Your Most Recent Mb Purchase?

I’ve been saving up for my grail pen for my birthday/Xmas next week but haven’t found it in the right condition and nib size yet :( I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will turn up in the coming months, and, in the meantime, I decided to treat myself to a smaller gift that would still make me smile. The 50s nibs have been my favorites, so when I found a 264 from 1952 within my budget, I thought it was a sign from the MB gods. I opened it a little early and it is a pleasure to write with; it has a soft medium nib with good flex and a wonderful stubbish quality!

I also took one photo next to a 50s 146 for anyone looking for a size comparison.

Congrats! This is a nice big pen. I also have a thing with those stubbish MB nibs from the 1950s.

How have you come to date this pen as from 1952? The only 264 pen in Rösler's book Collectible Stars is from 1957-59, although it is likely to be a late model as shows a cap band that is slightly different from yours and a blue ink window.

Cheers

Carlos

Thank you Carlos! I'm excited to have picked it up. I was actually typing too quickly :) I ordered it from Tom W. at the end of last month and it was dated 1954 in the listing on penboard. I liked this version with the clear ink window because it has a curved grip section and I had not yet come across one like that with the blue window. I'm not sure what other differences there are between the two versions but I would love to know. I will edit my original post to correct the date!

Thanks to you for your reply Bahij. I attach a pic from the Collectible Stars (1946-1979) book where it is shown the later blue ink window model. This model also had two cap bands, the broader one with MB 264 imprinted on it.

By the way, one thing that identifies your pen as an early model is the flat ebonite feed. Late 1950s MB pens, including the Meisterstück series, would have round grooved feeds.

And out of curiosity, what is your grial pen? A MB139 I guess :D

Made an un expected stop at a local auction and found two unusual pens

These were the only items in a single pen lot. A Bright Yellow 1930's Wearever and a 1930's circa MB

Just the ticket to brighten my day, naturally they both went home with me.

The MB is a Sim Plo Meisterstuck #20 B being a Student pen I believe fitted with a juicy 14K Flexible medium nib

It is a push knob filler similar to a Parker Duofold but the push button is sealed behind the end cap..

This is my 1st Sim Plo pen

I am in love with the Snow Cap, ! Any info about this model would be appreciated.

Hi Carlos, Thank you for the photo and for the differences between the two! I love the 139 but my ultimate grail vintage pen is the :notworthy1: 126pl. Which is yours? I am back in grad school though so I don't know if I will be able to get one any time soon; I think I would need to put in a lot of extra hours in my part time job at the library! haha I've been saving for my grail modern pen this year and will hopefully have a photo to add here soon for the reveal :P

I encourage you to go for it! I'm 42 now and regret not to have made an extra effort and get a Waterman LeMan 100 instead of a Waterman Laureat when I was in grad school ;-)

I'm not sure that I have a grial pen. Maybe a Montblanc 138 or, even better, a 128, but rather than a grial pen I am really looking for a grial nib. I would like to come across a large MB from the 30s/40s with the wonderful flexible fine nib of my little MB 332. I've tried vintage MB pens of the period by the dozen in penshows and shops and have not found it yet.

Cheers

Thank you for the good advice Carlos! I think you are right; I've been wanting to get to more shows to see as many of the pens on my wishlist as possible and maybe scrap them all and start saving slowly for the one. I hope you find that nib!

I agree with you, Carlos, making the extra effort to get something that one really would like makes acquiring that item so much more special...

Grail pen-wise, I already have mine, being the 138 and extra bonus it has my grail nib on it. But, the 128 is a pen I am seriously thinking about getting in four months time. It's one of three I am looking at getting, the other two being a 139 or silver rings 149.

Also, saw that 234 you posted earlier...that's really nice, congrats!

Thanks Kevin. You are really lucky about that 138. It's a pen that IMHO has probably better proportions than the 139 itself. In the last Madrid Penshow in November, I had one in my hands that was selling Mr. Gary Lehrer, but finally did not made up my mind to buy it. Maybe next year ;-)

Best

Today I bought an early 1950s MB 149 silver rings with the ski slope feed. Pictures were not great on my phone, but worth a shot for the price. I have been wanting one of these for a while. Fingers crossed it is not a hot mess when it arrives. I'll likely need to send it off to Tom, Max, or Francis for restoration.

Hello zaddick,

Please post some photos when your pen arrives.

I just purchased a wonderful near mint Solitaire Legrand Black & White Douè. Will get some pics up this weekend. Medium nib. Just a beautiful, classy pen. To me it has an understated elegance. Not nearly as nice as some of the other LE's and such in this thread, but I love it. It writes like a dream, dip tested only so far. Trying to decide which ink to go with for the first fill.

I enjoy MB 146 pens, Sailor, Pilot and Platinum pens as well. I have a strong attraction to dark red and muted green ink, colors I dislike for everything but FP ink. I also enjoy practicing my handwriting and attempting to improve it. I love the feel of quality paper under a gold nib.

I just got this danish coral red MB 206 (1950-54), it was in very good shape, and cleaned up nicely, just needed a new sac.

It came with a large danish masterpiece nib (245) which i replaced for the appropriate one, and it writes wonderfully smooth.

It´s a rather large and fat pen, a little longer than the MB 256.

Beautiful pen and shiny red colour! Congrats

PS: a 245 nib is the nib size for Meisterstück 138 pens, isn't it?
