I had always wanted a Geometric Dimension and I'm glad that I placed the order.

That MOP star completely makes the whole pen...

Just a fantastic pen. Such great design and machining. It is so beautiful in person and in your hand.

Congratulations!

Im rolling the dice on this one. I completely agree that the patterns can make or break a pen. When I purchased mine, they didn't have any mediums in stock at the pen show, so were going to ship once they were back at their store front. Im hoping for something with subtle orange/brown hues rather than some of the ones that had a blob on the side of the pen.

Im surprised they actually opened up sealed boxes so that you could pick the one you wanted.

The pattern on the one I have is quite subtle, it looks like smoke rising up the barrel quite faint with more intensity on the cap but no blob or thick line. Of the others that I rejected, most had either a single thick line, a thick loop or a blob on the cap. There was also one where you could hardly detect any pattern at all.

Opening up the sealed boxes here is pretty normal, both the MB boutique and the main independent dealers will let you handle a pen to review it, as well as dip the pens to test multiple nibs.

You could have taken the fine from the show if they had one you liked, you have a year to send it to MB to change the nib if needed.

Just picked up a Daniel Defoe writers edition from the boutique in Zurich, there is quite a difference in resin pattern between pens so ended up having them show me their full stock to find the best one :) Ended up with a fine nib but i suspect it will be being taken in shortly for a B or BB replacement.

Wonderful acquisition! I like to hear that customer service and being able to pick a unique pen.

I keep thinking about selling some of my pens but all that happens is I keep acquiring more!

I picked up a Starwalker 100 year anniversary edition ballpoint recently like new off ebay. I also got an ultimate carbon fountain but I will be selling that one as I prefer ballpoint / rollerball for day to day use.

How does the FP (Ultimate Carbon) write?

Just arrived from Netherlands, compliments of the kind folks at Appelboom:

Many congrats with your purchase. Hope it will serve you for a long time!

My B returned quite broad after the switch. I think it is between a B and a BB with a very good flow.

My preferred supplier (no affiliation just a very happy customer):

Appelboom

Thanks very much. Actually, it was in reading your review of the Balzac that I learned of Mr. Appelboom. I have to say I am quite pleased with the service I was given. Not only were they competitive in pricing, they were extraordinarily helpful with questions and treated me as a friend, even though it was my first dealing with the firm. I join you in recommending Appelboom, and wish only that I lived nearby so I could meet in person the folks who were so kind to me.

By the way, I learned from Montblanc that a BB nib is available for the Balzac, so I've sent the pen to MB for a nib exchange. I'll post here again when it returns.

Good to know the influence of internet. Sounds like you also have the same experience like me with purchasing items at his store.

Hope you will receive the fp back soon after the swap. Did you bring it to the boutique? Did they say something about it that you purchased it abroad?

I sent it to the Montblanc service center in Fort Worth, Texas, after talking on the phone with a very nice MB representative. No word yet, but they should have received it by now.

I'm looking forward to it, as well!

An Agatha Christie fountain pen - with a rather "thick" fine nib..

Wow, that's a pen I've wanted for some time. Looks like it has a nice patina - hope it writes as nicely as one expects.

Thanks, I have been after one for a while too. It it quite a hefty pen. Although my favourite nib is a BB on a 144 (you need to try one of those DC I think you would enjoy it!) I like the MB fine, which giving a thick line for a fine, is a smooth writing pleasure to use.
