You may be right. I even use it, or try to use it, for notetaking. At first I thought my handwriting was too scribbly for this nib. The 146 might have been used just for rare, big, fancy stuff and be more of a collector's item. But it seems my handwriting varies a bit with the pen I use. Sharp, F-sized nibs like my Sailor 1911 Large H-F, seem to encourage tiny lettering, a bit scratchy. Very useful for writing comments on printed documents. Larger, broader nibs (Sailor 1911 Naginata-M, MB 146 OBB) promote a wider, more generous movement while writing. It's actually nice to have a bit of variation in pens!

I haven't added anything MB since 8 months or more but I am on the look out for a sixth 60's-70's 149 with a 18ct french market nib

Five months for me. Currently being very good and holding back. Maybe over the summer I will get something.

Some lovely photos from others though of recent purchases

A Florence etui

Stephen

Congrats Stephen - these Florence pouches are becoming very difficult to find, and they are the perfect way to carry a pen in your trouser pocket.

Use a dollop of leather conditioner on the pouch - rub it in, let it dry, and then buff. That will help restore the natural oils and prevent cracking. It will also buff up a low shine.

Vert nice.

Thanks Yachtsilverswan! It is lovely and TBH the fact that it is a 90's used item works nicely with a couple of 90's MB's. That said I just had to plump for an NOS croco too...

Just needs a bit of polish with a silver cloth, and is good for service.

My last MB purchase was a Writer's Edition "F. Scott Fitzgerald" for half the price. Could hardly believe my luck since I had been drooling over it for a while and they've become pretty rare around here. I usually don't like bicolor nibs but this one is just awesome.

I've had the medium nib it came with swap with a OB and got it back from Montblanc last week. Inked it with Caran d'Ache Saffron. Writes like a dream and works nicely with the strong shading of the ink color.

  • 2 weeks later...

At the weekend I bought a Marcel Proust. It has turned up this morning. I knew it was "used", it has come inked some I am currently using it at work today. This evening I will give it a good flushing but I am very impressed.

I can see this pen becoming one of my favourites. No negatives about the pen. I love the nib, the balance, the way the cap screws onto the end of the pen when you post it. I really like the hexagonal barrel as it will prevent (or at least reduce the risk) the pen from rolling off the desk.

I will try and take some photos at the weekend.

The latest MB addition is a late 80's Florence burgundy one pen case. It actually looks darker in real life than on the picture.

MB 234 1/2 with 14kt M, full flex nib. Should be arriving from Germany tomorrow. Well, at least I hope so.

The best looking 234 1/2 I have seen. Congratulations!

My 234 and a half is very nice, but yours appears to be mint. Any photos of the nib??
