What's Your Most Recent Mb Purchase?

Recommended Posts

After shopping around for months, I have pulled the trigger and ordered my MB 149 F nib, via the Fountain Pen Hospital, today. Can't wait. This will be my first 149 and my intention is to use it for my main daily writer, backed up by a Pelikan M1000 F nib, which should arrive any day now. Gosh am I excited!

Congratulation Pavoni. A great choice. 149 is the best MB pen for daily use at work. Very classic appearance and it has been on the market for 75 years at least, some says 100 years.!

Hope waiting days are not that long for you although it is Worth waiting for.

Best wishes,

Htin

Thanks Htin, I am really excited, can't sleep, can't concentrate at work. I've always wanted my own 'brand new' 149 but taken a long time to actually make the purchase (they ain't cheap!). I am going to look out for vintage ones in 2012 to support, what is bound to be my main workhorse (thoroughbred of course). I persuaded myself I 'deserved' the trusty 149 back in late December (when my annual bonus hit the bank - no, I'm not a banker). However, what with the increase in VAT in the new year, I decided to look around for a best deal. I actually enjoy buying from our local MB Boutique (now matter how painful) and, whilst I have bought MANY an item from there in the past, there can be no better feeling than walking into a MB boutique, asking to see such a pen and stating "I'll take it". However, after taking advantage of the favourable exchange rate, I have eventually bought from across the pond. Now it is a race to see which arrives first between the MB 149 (which is being accompanied by my first Parker 51) from New York, and the Pelikan M1000 I have ordered from 'The Writing Desk' here in Blighty. As a doctor Htin, what should I take to get me through these impatient nights? How did you cope waiting for three excellent pens all ordered on the same night?

I am really pleased for you my friend. I am also excitied for you with great happiness, and I know the feeling. I also suffer from insomnia when I am waiting for the pens to arrive by post. I am afraid there is no cure for this condition, a bit of consolation for you, perhaps it will make you feel better that you are not alone in suffering from this. It is due to our strong passion for these pens! Show us some photos and share your joy  Wish you all the best. Htin

Dear Sunnerd,

That's simply stunning, words do not do it justice and I can only assume very, very rare indeed.

Can you advise whether it's a long ink window version of the 138?

With best regards,

Jamie.

Hi Jamie, yes it has got a long ink window, and the stripes are still faintly visible.

Hi Chris, you'll get the writing samples in a few days' time

Wow. Exquisite pen and nib, clear, crisp "P". Do you think the nib was two toned originally?

Excellent photography, just wonderful.

Thanks,

greg

Thanks guys.

Greg, I just inspected the nib under loupe and daylight, I cannot find any trace/tint of gold plating or gold colour on the nib.

It is very possible that the nib is not original to the pen, as the nib size is much more closer to a "6" than a "9", after comparing it against my other 136 and 139.

Thanks Kai. I had looked at some of the 138s in Penboard's shop data and noticed two 2-toned Palladium nibs. One of the listings claimed that the nib was only made in 1938. Made me curious.

Your pen is a superb piece of Montblanc history. Enjoy.

Ditto, I did it as well sneaking and checking Royal Mail On line Tracking as well as reading FPN to ease off some stress at work.. Today we have some fantastic posts on the Forum which made me laugh. I recommend you to read it. A lady member is asking for an advice on which one to choose between 146 & 149. The other topic is about Nib choices and test writing MB pens at store.

I am day off tomorrow but from Thursday the 27th to Monday the 31st every day up to 12 hrs a day constant working, night time stand by and advise given over the phone to junior doctors or if I am not Lucky I have to come in to hospital to solve the problem during middle of the night, and I need a break and relaxation in between otherwise people could be burnt out.

FPN forum cheers me up

Best wishes,

Htin

MB 149 M nib bought used at the Philly pen show on Sunday. Took it all apart--cleaned it--LOTS of blue inky gunk in it--scared it was Baystate blue-- but it cleaned up very well and will be inked this weekend or next week. Too many pens inked right now.

Arrived today to quench my Legrand thirst, a nice 1628, or 162SP, depending on the dates.

Just needs a bit of polish with a silver cloth, and is good for service.
