well.... i got two bottles back when swisher had them for $6 USD, YES, 6 bucks!!! love it!

sandy, you're undoubtedly the queen of reviews!!!

Hi,

$6 !! I imagine they were the glass bottles & proper boxes too!

I certainly hope you have used those by now and are on to your umpteenth bottle.

QoR? Well now. It suddenly feels warm in here; maybe I'll open a window.

Bye,

S1

they were the plastic bottles... don't know why or can't remember why he had them that low (he did have some sort of explanation, but i can't remember).

and yes, you are the QoR!!!!

oh, just noticed i mentioned the plastic bottles w/o specifying they were these "new" plastic bttles for $6:

http://www.nexternal.com/swisher/images/Visconti_Ink_500.JPG

(ok, that's not exactly the plastic bottle in the pic, but what i meant was the new plastic standard line bottle they usually sell for $16 usd)

alas, swisher doesn't have the blue anymore!

Where can I buy this ink in the modest plastic bottles IN STOCK? I've been wanting it for so long.

Hi,

These are the Vendors I mentioned above.

Try here: My link

And here: My link

Others outlets of course, but those Vendors came to mind.

Some Vendors sell Visconti ink, but don't list the 50ml bottles.

'In Stock'? I reckon that can change daily or momentarily. Perhaps when the stock of glass bottles was gutted, that skewed the inventory, and the production and distribution process; but that was months ago.

If you find a source/s, please post your findings.

It may be well worth it to post in Inky Thoughts, or even an 'I Want' in the Market

Hi,

The Visconti Blue is the fifth ink to be reviewed in the 'One of the Ten' (OOTT) group of Blue inks.

When complete, the intention is to have the OOTT inks reviewed in the same manner, and compared in the same manner to the maximum practical extent.

Hopefully the OOTT reviews and comparisons will assist practitioners in choosing their lynch-pin Blue/s, and avoid unintentional purchase of visually equivalent ink/s.

Also, the OOTT results should give common ground for claims, rumour and scuttlebutt to be discussed. Or be considered irrelevant, and so be ignored.

Just out of curiosity, what are all ten of them together?

So far, I make it

- Visconti

- Skrip

- Éclat

- 4001

- asa-gao

Sorry if I have overlooked any of the other 5. Wasn't on purpose...

Hi,

So nice of you to ask. But ...

I think there needs to be a bit of anticipation, so I haven't 'spilled the beans' of all the inks to anyone.

You're the first to ask; and I'm half way through the inks - the comparisons are taking more time than expected.

Let me say that I doubt anyone will be surprised at the inks that are included.

Some will wonder 'Why didn't S1 include my favourite blue?' So perhaps as time passes other inks may receive the same care & attention without being 'One Of The Ten'.

To me the key aspect of the One Of The Ten is the comparisons. So even if I review an ink in a similar way, I would be reluctant to generate a full array of comparisons without sufficient motivation. Not as if I'm selling ink, you know; I don't give a rodent's rump about customer satisfaction, repeat sales, blog hits, sponsor/advertising income, etc. And I'm just as grateful when Members reply that they'd never buy an ink, as replies that they're going to buy an ink immediately.

As usual, a long answer to a short question.

I was thinking about a "normal" blue for my next ink, but I put it off when you started doing the "One of the Ten" reviews. I'm not a huge user of blue inks (except for blue/black or really dark blue) so it's not a big deal to me to wait for all ten. I could always sift through all the other blue reviews out there, but I love your format, and it's nice to be able to compare several inks side by side from consistent scans.

I've got to say, though, that out of the 5 so far, I'd be going with the Visconti. I'm really liking the rich color.

Amazing review. MAkes me tempted to dig out my Lamy 1.1i nib--I didn't like the lamy 'cheap' nibs, as they seemed dry and thin, but I love the richness in your scan.

Also, amazing timing as this ink arrived for me today. I like it far more than the Diamine Majestic Blue I bought(slight mettalic relflection on that). For me it is just very slightly darker than Herbin Sapphire (which awakened a lve of blue--then went mouldy!)

Thanks for yoor efforts.

Where can I buy this ink in the modest plastic bottles IN STOCK? I've been wanting it for so long.

Apparently Visconti has discontinued (at least) Blue and Burgundy in the conventional 50ml plastic bottles.

All colours still seem available in the "chalice shaped" bottles (now containing 60 instead of 40 ml?)

Excellent review, as always. In my experience, VB is a bright blue when the pen is newly filled, but gets darker if it's been sitting in the pen for several days. This happens with other inks, of course, but it's very noticeable with VB.

Hi,

That's interesting.

For all except my daily writer, its my habit to ink-up a pen, do what writing there is to do, then clean the pen. Usually an evening or twelve hours; three days is really the outside for me to finish writing a personal letter, and that is very rare; and is a sign I really should start over.

I could see that being a real problem if one is using VB for illustrations etc., where consistent density is essential.

Seems the only work-around is to flush the pen when done for the day, then re-ink when returning to write. Not a huge big deal, but what a nuisance if one is traveling. (And no wonder that Visconti makes an ink pot for those on the move.)

EDIT to add:

So, if the colour has changed, then the ink remaining in the pen is not returned to the VB pot? Or would you suggest that one should avoid returning any ink to the VB pot, irregardless of duration in the pen?

Sandy1, thanks for the prompt answer. That makes sense. I love inks, I love any/all comparisons of everything on earth (I think) so ink comparison is heaven on earth for me. That's why I have so many inks. I don' even need 'em to do a lot of writing. I sometimes just compare them and be done with it.

If you had happened (by chance, of course) to divulge what's coming up, I'd buy them immediately if I didn't already have them.

There are, however, two I'm waiting for, but I won't tell you what they are untill you've hit all ten!

Ben

PS: Well, okay, maybe I would tell you today, but only when you promise to include them in your list. Also, you'd have to promise that you'd do a Ten-Pack list of blue-blacks too

You are way more conscientious than me. I often leave ink in pens for many days, or even weeks, and then go back to it (or not). I mostly use Noodler's or Diamine, and have never had a problem. If a pen gets hard to start (which doesn't happen until several weeks in), I flush it. End of story.

I rarely if ever return ink to the bottle, mainly on aesthetic (but also on hygienic) grounds. Since I have more ink than I will ever need, I don't worry about wasting the odd half ml. Vita brevis, and all that.
