In the 2008 heist-thriller film The Bank Job pornographer Lew Vogel keeps a record of his payoffs to corrupt cops using this nice Sheaffer:

I don't know if the pen is correct for the events in the film which supposedly happened in 1971,

Kylie Mingoue uses a fountain pen in the first minute of the pop video for Especialy for you. Couldn't tell you which pen though, it looks like a typical school pen.

Starting from 4 mins on the Charmed reboot in ep11 s01 Harry the Whitelighter uses a Platinum Balance in green, incl the Platinum scratchiness and what seems an M nib (black ink, likely the supplied Platinum cart).

Another episode of Danger Man/Secret Agent. In "I Think You Have the Wrong Number" John Drake has to travel to Switzerland to investigate the (staged) car accident of another agent. He has to track down that agent's contacts to flush out a double agent, and calls each one in turn, leaving a coded message. He pulls out what looks like the trusty Parker 51 from a previous episode to dial the phone in his hotel room and then jot down notes about who he's called. and the rendezvous point.

I think youtube can be considered modern TV? In the latest episode of First We Feast's "Hot Ones" you can find Alton Brown sporting, what appears to be, a Montblanc 146 Platinum in his chest pocket.

There is also more evidence... :)

Cool.... Of course I remember the episode of Good Eats where he made the apple pie and "discovered" the spice grains of paradise and my husband and I just sort of sat there and snickered and said "Took him long enough...."

Can anyone identify the fountain pen Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) uses in Invictus?

Ooooo, a new spice and going by the description I found I see where it could come handy. Thanks for the tip! :)

A Montblanc features in a murder investigation in season 2 (episode 1) of the Belgian police drama The Break. I thought it might be from a brief early glimpse and this was confirmed when we see it later in an evidence bag where the included tag says "plumo Montblanc". Judging from the size, I'd say it's a 149.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

In last night's episode of NCIS, Kasie (the replacement for Abby) gave the rest of the team gifts for something called "Random Day". She gave Director Vance a pen. Didn't get a good look at it (and it was never uncapped) although at one point Vance is shown holding it while signing some sort of paper involving a joint operation with law enforcement, and he jokes about it.

Pen looked as if it might have been a Visconti Celluloid, although I didn't get a good look at the clip (the barrel was similar to a vintage Parker Vacumatic -- possibly a Silver Pearl Major -- but that arched clip sort of screamed "Visconti to me, although I couldn't read it, and was definitely NOT an arrow clip.

In "It's a Wonderful Life", Mr. Potter has an Eversharp Skyline on his desk as he plots evil against Jimmy Stewart and the town. Just saw the movie on "the big screen" at the New York Historical Society. The pen is just at the bottom of the screen...would be hard to spot on TV.

Have been meaning to add to this after noticing Old Potter's Skyline this past Christmas... took some screen shots and posting them over at the Eversharp forum!

During a recent TV interview a well known conservative lawyer and pundit appeared with two Lamys in his pocket:

This evening I was watching the movie My Favorite Year which is set in 1954. Peter O'Toole plays the fading matinee idol Alan Swann, who is booked on a TV comedy sketch show, which is broadcast on Saturday nights from NYC; but since he's a drunk that the host wants to boot off the show, a junior writer for the show is pegged with the task of keeping Swann sober *and* on set in the TV studio when he's supposed to be, during the week-long rehearsal schedule.

At one point, Benjy (played by Mark Linn-Baker), the junior writer, takes Swann to the weekly dinner at his mother and stepfather's apartment in Brooklyn. Benjy's Uncle Morty meets them at the door, and wants Swann's autograph for his wife; while people are handing pens and autograph books to Swann throughout the movie (he IS a movie star, after all) I thought it interesting that Uncle Morty gives Swann a black fountain pen to use (couldn't tell what the model was, although clearly it was one with threading for the cap design, because Swann clearly unscrews the cap from the pen...).

Not a TV or movie, but a mention in a famous book.

I'm currently listening to Stephen Fry's wonderful audio version of the complete Sherlock Holmes.

In "The Adventure of the Cardboard Box" Holmes inspects the package and says,

"Address printed in rather straggling characters: 'Miss S. Cushing, Cross Street, Croydon.' Done with a broad-pointed pen, probably a J, and with very inferior ink."

Most people today would not recognize the type of pen Holmes is listing. The "J" pens were quite popular and considered easy to write with, so even someone not well-taught could still use one. They came in Fine, Medium and Broad, but most were on the broad side. They're a fun but odd pen, somewhere between a stub and a pointed pen, and the better ones have a fair amount of flex.

Here's an example of writing with one of those better ones, a William Mitchell "J" pen.

I love this thread!!! And House of Games...I will have to rewatch! (My cat's name is also sort of inspired by that film...Lirg...she's the girl, she's the lirg!)

I also watch a lot of Korean and Chinese dramas, and have noticed them a fair number of times. Most recently--can't remember which show--I think I saw a Platinum President (but I had to go by the pen's silhouette because camera didn't provide enough detail).

If I am not misremembering (quite likely!), I think there's also a desk set in Jake's office in Chinatown...though what pens were in them, I have no idea.

A crowdsourced database of screenshots with pens from films....smashing!
