Fountain Pens In Movies And Tv

We have been watching All Creatures Great and Small, they show them using fountain pens sometimes. There is one scene where they are writing letters or Christmas cards and they are using blotters for excess ink. The stories are from the1940's, I guess before ball point pens.

In the TV show Beauty and the Beast (high school flashback), Vincent uses a fountain pen to write in his journal. Not sure which one - it's old and black and I think has a flat top. I'd have to get the old episodes on Netflix to check...

Am I a loser for knowing this?

Short of searching though various youtube uploads of the show, this was the only picture I could find of it

In the first season of White Collar, Neal Caffrey is writing with what I can only guess is a Montblanc in one of the episodes. I saw it on Hulu, so low res and it's not on camera for long.

Also, on Castle, in an episode from, I think, the second season, Alexis is writing with a Pilot Varsity.

Would a music video qualify here? Can't tell which pen the nib section belongs to, but note that there is no use of texting or email in the communications. Lovely!

"Reign of Fire" opens with the character writing with a FP while you hear the narration

of what he is writing down.

I recall one older James Bond movie, although which one in particular escapes me, where Q gives Mr. Bond an exploding pen. I seem to remember it being a black Mont Blanc with the Union Jack on it. After a demonstration of the pen's explosive abilities, 007 comments something along the lines of "You can write a very binding contract with that pen."

For your first pen, you should buy a Pelikan m200 or a TWSBI 540.

For vintage, get a Parker Vacumatic or a 51.

Once you go Vac, you never go back.

Yes, I've been drinking.

Don't know if this has already been mentioned, but I was skimming through 'Closer' and Clive Owen was taking a few seconds to unscrew a pen. Ding!

Nice spot. It looks a bit like a Pelikan to me, but I'm not sure. Either way, I like his suit. I've seen them used a couple of times on the Sci-Fi channel show Sanctuary. Never could tell what type, and I can't name the episodes.

Wish-list: Parker 51 India Black Vacumatic. Green Parker Vacumatic Maxima. Visconti Homo Sapien. Aurora Optima and Vintage 88. Lamy 27. Sheaffer Pen For Men V. Moss-Agate Waterman Patrician, Pelikan Souverän M450. I just need to win the lottery now.

There's a funny little short called "A Painful Glimpse into My Writing Process," that has a quick scene where a bunch of pens flash up on screen about half way through. Some are fountain pens and there is definitely a VP in there!

Check it out here:

Recent Korean Pop music video, has a fountain pen at the end. Its left uncapped and sitting on a desk... which is probably fountain pen ignorance, but its there! I can't identify it though, maybe someone else can! Looks like a very stiff nib though.

At about 4:20 to the end, if you can't stand KPop =D

In Back To The Future (Part I), Marty McFly is writing a letter to Doc in 1955 with a fountain pen at Lou's Café warning him that he'll be shot 30 years later by the Libyans for scamming them on plutonium...

Yes I noticed too:

But I'm dying to know what brand..

Nervous? No, I'm just thinking...

In the British TV serial "As Time Goes By", each episode begins with a woman writing a letter with a Conway Stewart, maybe a 100, judging by the steeply tapered cap.

In the Britcom "Keeping Up Appearances" each show begins with Hycinth addrsssing an envelop with a Parker pen (distinctive arrow clip).

Bob

I've watched the beginning of "As Time Goes By" countless times, and could never identify that pen. But then I'm not at all familiar with Conway Stewart pens. Thanks for the info.

But I really think it's a man's (Lionel's?) hand wielding the pen. Always thought it was him writing the letter that got lost in the mail.

You can very clearly see that the letter is addressed to Jean, so it must be Lionel writing it.

Sounds like a korean backstreet boys to me. Personally don't listen to things like this, but I was just letting a youtube channel auto play!
