Commander James Bond has had several outings with pens:

The 3 clicks grenade pen in Goldeneye was a ballpoint, an all metal Jotter, I think.

In others, he had an earpiece hidden in a FP, a FP full of acid, and a pen, not sure what kind, with poison

The voice of this guitar of mine, at the awakening of the morning, wants to sing its joy;

I sing to your volcanoes, to your meadows and flowers, that are like mementos of the greatest of my loves;

If I am to die away from you, may they say I am sleeping, and bring me back home.

Not to mention the numerous cartoons from the '40s and '50s when a lever fill FP would be squirted in the face of an antagonist for humerous effect.

Let us not forget that in Who Framed Roger Rabbit the "gag king" Marvin Acme had a fountain pen that squirted disappearing (and eventually re-appearing) ink!

In The Commissioner the lead character has a MB (149 I believe) desk pen, inkwell and a ink blotter on his desk towards the end of the movie. A newspaper reporter uses a MB ballpoint as well.

In Back To The Future (Part I), Marty McFly is writing a letter to Doc in 1955 with a fountain pen at Lou's Café warning him that he'll be shot 30 years later by the Libyans for scamming them on plutonium...

In one episode of GBH (1991), Jim Nelson is at his doctor's surgery. Dr Jacobs is clearly, subtly, undergoing some private agony (it turns out that, after enduring years of Jim's hypochondria, he's now dying); he's recounting Jim's history of neurotic obsessions and imagined diseases, and observing how remarkable it is that he's managed to carry on living; all the while he's doodling with what I believe is a Montblanc (not sure, as I have no 'in-the-flesh' experience of MBs). There are two or three, deliciously prolonged, extreme closeups of nib-on-paper action.

I don't recall any movie, but here in Italy they are common in advertising, especially of financial companies. Seems that a valuable FP adds to the image of a lawyer or a financial consulting. Maybe this is the reason I am not rich, my financial advisor uses cheap BPs. :roflmho:

I'm sure there is a Waterman Edson in Quantum of Solace, but that could be my mind playing tricks on me.

Oh and I don't know vintage pens very well, but there appears to be a Duofold in Schindler's List. Watched it again yesterday (brilliant film) and the shape/horizontal lines were quite telling.

Not a movie or TV but there were fountain pens and ink in a video game - Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth for Nintendo DS. :)

It's not exactly a recent film, but I recall seeing a fountain pen used in the 1975 espionage thriller Three Days of the Condor. Just before the CIA office gets wiped out, we see the mysterious assassin watching as employees show up for work. One by one, he crosses their names off of a list... using a Montblanc 149.

I would not be suprised if MB occassionally pays for product placement in TV and movies.

In Guarding Tess there is a green Pelikan (M800? M1000?) laying on a notebook in the curator's office the first time Tess goes to her husband's memorial library.

Montblanc Blue-Black please; shaken, not stirred.

This is fun--and informative. One of my favorite films/TV series is Smiley's People, by John Le Carre. In one of the final scenes George Smiley (Alec Guinness) is penning a note to Karla the head of the KGB (played by Patrick Stewart). I've tried about 20 times to see what that pen is, but to no avail. Anyone figured that one out?

Phone calls last just minutes, emails get deleted, but letters live forever.

I was watching the Jackie Chan movie Gorgeous (1999) today. And ten minutes into the movie, he signs a card with a fountain pen. I'm not sure what kind it is exactly. The closest thing I can think of is a Lamy 2000 (similar style, but its not it)and with no silver on the end. It's got gold trim around the lip of the pen and the nib is gold (no pen cap on or around the area).

Can be seen here at the 6:12 mark...

In the movie "There will be blood" the lead actor (Daniel-Day Lewis) wears & uses a Watermen red ripple FP throughout the whole movie.

My guess is a Parker Sonnet, Matte Black. At th 6:14-17 mark you see the pen on a bit of an angle. The rounded end and the flare of the section look like Parker attributes to me... ?!? Could be wrong though.

In the British TV serial "As Time Goes By", each episode begins with a woman writing a letter with a Conway Stewart, maybe a 100, judging by the steeply tapered cap.

In the Britcom "Keeping Up Appearances" each show begins with Hycinth addrsssing an envelop with a Parker pen (distinctive arrow clip).

I've watched the beginning of "As Time Goes By" countless times, and could never identify that pen. But then I'm not at all familiar with Conway Stewart pens. Thanks for the info.

But I really think it's a man's (Lionel's?) hand wielding the pen. Always thought it was him writing the letter that got lost in the mail.

Fascinating. I am continually inspired by the usage of fountain pens seen in movies...
