Anybody else spot the two desk sets in episode 2 of the new season of True Detective on HBO? I believe one was a Wahl set, the other (in the mayors office?) I could not tell.

Currently watching The Falling Idol (recorded it recently from off TCM) and when Phile is taken to the police station the duty officer is using a dip pen and inkwell. Interesting, given that the movie was released in 1948.

Dressed to Kill - an absolutely horrid and worthless movie (unless you like to oogle Angie Dickinson). The ONLY good thing about the movie is that she uses a Sheaffer No-Nonsense.

Awww, thanks Fred! I figured from his deepest constant facial expressions of appreciation for the fine working things of the past, the top I was seeing was a nice Waterman, or Wahl that he'd carefully guarded in that pocket as symbol.

In the 2013 film version of "The Great Gatsby", Nick writes with a pen on the cover of his manuscript. The pen's nib looks like a Montblanc, but I don't believe these pens had two color nibs in 1929.

Early in the film, a doctor offers Nick a nice looking pencil.

I just watched an episode one of my favorite series: "The Saint" in Season 2 Episode 7 titled as The Work of Art, a fountain pen was used to sign a statement. Around 45:55, The pen has a screw on cap.

1. A series of Conway Stewart (Probably Churchill) lever filler in the movie Kingsman.

2. Paul Blart - Mall Cop part 1 - Some pen which I cannot recall of.

3. One Indian Movie (khoobsurat) and one Pepsi advertisement in India - uses Montblanc 149 and 146 respectively.

In an episode of the recent BBC series Sherlock. Sherlock Holmes deduces that the writing on a note was done by Parker Duofold. I think he might be a little more specific than that but I'm not sure. Pretty impressive from just the writing.

You don't see the pen but he mentions the pen by name.

I believe that's the pen Mr. Holmes' creator used as well.

Is the red pen dropped near the end of "The Theory of Everything" a Parker 45?

I'm told it was a 51, but it happened pretty fast.

BBC's excellent documentary on perfume, part 2. Jean-Claude Ellena (the creator of the wonderful The Vert for Bulgari) uses a lovely pen to write down his formulae:

He is one of my favorite perfumers and it's nice to know that we would have something to talk about beside perfume if we ever met.

In season 1, episode 10 of LOST, Claire attends a meeting where she is about to give up her baby for adoption. when she goes to sigh the adoption papers, the pen that she is given does not work, so the attorney pulls a pen out from his suit coat and hands it to her...it is a red/burgundy roller ball/ball point Montblanc.

Speaking of attorneys, Jane in Drop Dead Diva, is given and uses frequently a Montblanc roller ball/ball point throughout the series.

Montblanc...the pen of choice for attorneys?!?!

I finally got around to watching the first episode of Arthur & George while catching up with recorded stuff.

Martin Clunes plays Arthur Conan Doyle. There is a scene where he can be seen using a fountain pen to autograph some books. Does anybody know what pen it might be?

Looks like an aeromatic Duofold to me. Would be right for the period.

I just watched that last night. I couldn't tell if it was a fountain pen or a dip pen -- only that it had a nib. The story is from 1903, IIRC, so it could be either one, I guess (Arthur Conan Doyle was rich and famous enough, and I could see someone like that using the latest gadget).

PBS series American Experience just did a show on Walt Disney. It looked like he had a desk set with two Parker Duofolds.

In the 2015 Netflix series "Sense8," the resident bad-ass Sun is seen signing the papers she hopes will get her out of prison with a blue Lamy Safari. Which, considering the scene was shot in South Korea, might say something about how prevalent Lamys are there now.
