Rose Gold Plating On Mb 149 75th Ltd.

Congrats on getting your rose gold 75th Anni 149 LE restored - it's a beautiful pen.

I think the base metal for the clip and trim rings is the same brass as used on the standard 149. Were the base metal sterling silver, there would certainly be a hallmark.

It's possible that the new nib with its more red color is a different alloy with a greater copper content; though I think that is unlikely. I believe Montblanc makes a single production run of LE pens and the needed parts - so all the rose gold parts should look alike. Perhaps the older rose gold plated trim pieces are simply tarnishing, and the tarnish is responsible for the color difference. A GENTLE polish with a treated jewelers' cloth should settle the matter quickly and may buff up the sheen of the pen. Yes, gold tarnishes too, particularly plated gold - it just tarnishes more slowly than does silver.

Again, congrats. What a great pen.

Please find enclosed the comparison picture of my '80's 149 and 149 75th ltd. ed. As you can see, the plating on the cap end tends more towards yellow gold, although not the same color as the regular 149.

For Lorenzo: e portret a wordu saca bou di dushi solo na Korsou!

Thanks to everybody for your interest.
