Thanks for letting me know the repair cost. Considering I paid $5 and $9.50 respectively for these pens, I think I'll chance my hand at reshaping the damaged nib and keep an eye out for a replacement or parts pen.

eBay has replacement steel nibs for $10ish, btw.

Are these solid 14k gold ?? Probably not..

I have two P45. One bought recently new, and the other one is a vintage from the 70's. The older one has a solid nib, but is not writing as wet and soft. But it produces nice thin lines and the nib is not used to me yet.

The new one came with a bad scratchy nib and I had the seller replace it. It came back very nice, soft and wet. These 45s are very cool pens !

Thank you for the pictures showing how to do this! I was trying to disassemble based on a written explanation and got nowhere. The photos cleared up my misunderstanding!

Just want to add my massive thanks. This guide has helped clean my recently purchased 1982 Parker 45 and get it working!! It took me three attempts. For other noobs out there, don't forget to clean the tube that the nib assembly sits in (obviously you might say!) and a toothbrush will aid the cleaning. :D

Parker 45 (and New Slimfold) - Disassembly in easy stepsI recently bought a few Parker 45s that were in need of cleaning up. After a some searching I couldn't find a beginners guide to the disassembly and reassembly of these pens, so with a bit of trial and error, I made my own.

Thank you for this info, Chris. I used it to get my 45 back up and running today. I hadn't realized that ood separated from the section; both parts on mine ar black and look like a single piece.

I learnt the disassembly of P45 in the 60s when I first started collecting them. Very simple to use (and clean) and at the same time a reliable cheap pen that also came with gold nibs.
