Anyone Heard Of Elysee Fountain Pens

This is my one and only Elysee. It's a pencil with a lapis finish. I just noticed I still have the receipt form Menash. It was $65. in 1990.

I'd like to see updated to this thread from 2010. I think there may be a possible confusion with a T.S. Dupont line of pens that come in all metal and Chinese lacquer and tend not to be thin barreled. Of the few pictures posted here it appeared to be that many also were not as thin barreled as to how I feel my model is. My elysee is sleek, long, well-balanced, simple design, "Formenschoen", and a dream to write with. Pictures of the two I have will follow asap. Let's get this thread warmed up!

Just found this racey blog with the very pen I spoke of above. http://pakos.me/2013/06/15/i-bought-a-pen-24-years-ago/ I found it to be a fun read.

I had one (bought sometime in the 1990s) that for many years was the only pen I owned - didn't see the need for any other. One day, I had it in my trouser pocket and I walked into a table - snapped it in half. I still have the pieces. I only wish I could fix it...

I just discovered this thread, and you've made me very happy! Condensing: I won a Sailor FP in the original box on eBay: $68 plus shipping. When it showed up today, I felt like a bar girl when the fleet anchors: "Hello, Sailor!" But inside the Sailor box was an Élysée. I began the return process, but then read your posts. The fountain pen I received is a lovely, slender Élysée En Vogue Cobra, with an 18k Medium nib that writes creamy smoothly. The seller, when informed of the confusion, just allowed me to keep it. So, I now have a pen I probably never would have heard about. Thanks, FPH confrères!

Hi, newbie here.

I received this Elysee for my 18th Birthday, i have not used it hardly at all as I do not like slim pens. However I have no idea what model this is. Can any of you more experienced members shed any light?post-122554-0-48894400-1430916727_thumb.jpgpost-122554-0-89567600-1430916746_thumb.jpg

These are very interesting pens that in my opinion were not properly commercialize .qualityis first grade for the ones that were made in Germany and for some reason they made a low end pen made in Mexico. Not only Parker ,esterbrook and Werever pens were made in Mexico.

I don't agree with what you say about quality. I think quality issues may have been the biggest problems of Elysee. They were beautiful too see and new they were good, but I have had several problems with several of these pens after a few years of use.

Corrosion of the section ring is a well known problem, I've also had leakage, a cap that does not snap on anymore, black lacquer peeling of the section, gold plating eroding from a gold plated steel nib etcetera.

I still have my pens and like to look at them, but I've retired all of them.

That is (sadly) true. I have half a dozen of Elysee fountain pens and they all get that way. But the nibs are really nice. Most of the time I use them up and throw them away. On flea markets you can get them almost unused for a couple of Euros.

I am also really fond of the design because they are slender and have some weight.

By the way: I know one collector for Elysee fountain pens personally and he explained that they have in twenty years a lot of models (and limited/special editions), so most fountain pen enthusiast don't know them or just one or two. And they had a bad image (little bit like Cross?), so no one really collects them. Some people got one or two but real collectors for Elysee are rare.

Pen Hero Com

Pen gallery Elysee main page is where to find more info.

It has been six years since I last posted on this thread. Gee!!!!!! Time has fallen off a cliff.

Today while I slept the sleep of the just.....and being a night Owl, married to an Early Bird....my wife snuck out the house to a small indoor flea market she goes too once a year that it happens. She bought me a lightly gold stripe plated chrome (Globetrotter) Elysee  ...for ...it and what looks to be a  Chinese pen for 40E. (The plastic box is a Senator, but the pen has no markings....I'll be taking a good look as Senator later.)

24 K gold plate end jewels and clip and 12K matt gold gold lines one has to look for twice to see, which is good, it's not overly 'blingy' and it states on the pen it is 24 K/12 K electro plate, with a globe wrapped around the lower barrel's top, also in matt gold, on a chrome pen.

The pen is NOS, cost DM 115 the classy plastic price tag over the clip and still has the M sticker.

As I said before I knew nothing much about Elysee other than twice I didn't buy in a German Flea market and slightly regretted it later; always. But it was a nail, so I over came regrets...

Had the pens been 5 euro less I might have bought them....I think they wanted 20 Euro as bottom line and I was under way from my stand with what ever quick morning money was in my pocket, looking for bargain pens I wanted more.

I didn't want them enough to go back....could well be I ran into something more my taste along the way. It was a while back.

I went today to Pen Hero and found out what I'd been missing. Some of their pens in the LE class are real Limited Editions with much hand jewelry work in enamel and copper and burnished gold. :notworthy1:  :puddle: Elysee had belonged to an old established jewelry firm before being sold to Stadtler. So had the skilled workers to do the artwork. Real Limited Editions made by Jewelers. :happyberet:

At Pen Hero, I found out the cap clicks on well when posted....at first it didn't seem so, but the second time I tried, I pushed a bit harder and it clicked on nicely.

I then went to German Ebay and found my wife made a great buy.....but all the Elysee pens are 'buy now' from one man, who is getting rid of his collection.....and Buy Now is always very expensive.

On past auctions, there was only a simple Elysee for 45 E. He keeps those that don't sell rolling over on Ebay.

One can this minute find in a "Buy Now" on Ebay Germany, an in the box, Globetrotter FP&BP for 240 E.

That is where I found out what exactly I had....have and :headsmack: :wallbash: :gaah: I saw some Elysee pens I want. :puddle:

My wife who has less interest in pens, gets two thirds of her blind buys right. She also got me a Parker 25 UK FP_&BP set for 20 E. Sigh, I don't collect Parker (I do have the basics; 38 Vac with '36 Canadian factory BB stub nib, P-51, rolled gold cap P-45 , P-75 (Bought back in the Siilver Dollar Days by me), but that is at least the second flighter set I have, that she bought me. .....................  or is it she likes the ball points she always ends up with .... :) she's not that mean. ;)

Hummm....If I give her a few of my vintage ball points to go with the lot of very nice ball points she'd have a very good collection, nice Parkers of all eras, the best Lamy ones, '50's Pelikans, a couple of '50's 'no names' :puddle: . She don't take them to work as is, she don't want them to walk.(Well, there are some very fine cheap ball points to be had, even rubber sectioned ones and for free.).........Too bad no one gives out good cheap advertising fountain pens. B)

Does anyone know what cartridge an Elysee uses?

Sooner or later I'll have to use the NOS pen, to see how it writes.

Hi BoBo,

the elysee prices on ebay are a bit crazy. But there are not too much people buying some elysee pens, so "buy now" prices are safer for the seller. Currently I offer only one elysee with a 14 kt nib on ebay. But theoretically you can get nearly any kind of elysee from me :) A globetrotter set at 240 Euro is a crazy offer, that is approx. 180 Euro too much! But perhaps there is a buyer who want to spend this money.

The fountainpens take the normal Pelikan cartridges.

Dirk, you have the worlds greatest jewelry museum in Pforzheim. some items from 2-3,000+ years ago, could be sold as modern....if someone was willing to pay for the hand work. It's hard to believe they were able to do that sort of work, 500-1000 or more years ago.

Thanks for the kind offer. Unless I ever run into one of those Art Work LE's at a Soemgi bargain, I think I'll be satisfied with my one of.....Elysee makes a very, very good metal pen, and I did like a few of the one the buy now seller had for sale....but I have only 8-10 metal pens so it is not my area of collection, but would recommend them to those who like metal pens. They might well be second to Dupont in quality for metal pens.

It is worth going to Pen Hero Com to look at them.

I have other German pens I collect. Outside of the '30's Pelikan tortoise....I'm near finished with Pelikan (don't expect to own a 700 or 900)....I'd like to get a couple early '50s Original Reforms. Some very, very modern for the day pretty pens, good nibs of course. I'm missing some colored Osmia pens.

Soennecken remains just out of range.

I have a secret vice........I buy swords, on occasion in live auctions. Had the swords been first, I'd not gotten my last '50-54 400 Pelikan......sigh.

I do have a few '90's Pelikan cartridges I can re-hydrate for the Globetrotter. Pelikan made a wonderful selection of colors for cartridges back in the '90'. One of those flea market buys I kick my self for not buying as many as possible instead of a small selection of 7 or 8 colors other than blue, black and BB. Some 'girly' colors I haven't yet been brave enough to try.

There were two great gray inks too, the orange was good then also.

Sorry for asking about a ballpoint, instead of a fountain pen, but considering you have the Élysée catalogue, I would thank you very much if you could try to find some information about what is the model or series name of my piece.

Thank you very much in advance, and best wishes,

Hi Dib, since you seem very knowledgeable about this brand and even have a catalog, could you please help me determine the model of a pen that I recently found? Note that this is not my pen, just a photo that I found online. My pen has a mottled blue lacquer coating instead of being a solid color. Thank you!
