Let's See Your Watermarks

Here's the long discontinued Crane's 100% cotton Distaff Linen. The color is actually a nice off white which doesn't come out in the photo, but you can at least see the interesting watermark and laid lines. Enjoy.

How do you photograph them?

I think I'd have trouble with Smythson's Nile Blue...it's very 'dense'.

If you make people think they're thinking, they'll love you; But if you really make them think, they'll hate you.

Often photographing a watermark back-lit helps. Then, in whatever photo program you use, try playing around with contrast or brightness.

This is one of the best watermarks I ever got. The International Brotherhood of Paper Makers. :cloud9:

Very nice Jbb! Have you any background about this Brotherhood?

Is one of you the watermark collector that posted on FPN a while back?

I may have posted a few, but that would've been years ago.

Some more Crane and Co.

Blade Runner and JBB,

I wanted to thank you for starting the thread and taking the time to post these (I'd post some myself, but I'm on the road right now and carrying only sketchbooks). But I wanted to thank you for making the effort; I love these.

Your welcome Dennis. Watermarks have a subtle beauty, don't they? A couple of classics:

Here's Fort Ancient Bond. This was old letterhead I found at an estate sale. I had a printer cut off the printed parts and pad the paper for me.

Im curious if theres any manufacturer that could make personalized watermarks for a "cheap" price.
