This is a 1939 pen that I just acquired with papers but the nib is busted beyond repair (half of it is gone). I think the original nib was probably steel, but I am not sure. Remains do not look like gold to me, I will test tonight. Anyway, if you know the pen and you should have original nib, please PM me. Also, if you have a vintage European replacement nib (I prefer gold), please PM me. Thank you!

Hi rhr2010,

how do you know when your pen was manufactured and other details about it? I ask because I picked up a Kaweco Elite 183 a few months back and wanted to know more info about it. It is marked Kaweco Elite and 39 apx. in the middle section of the barrel and 183 and 06 near the piston cap. Any idea what the 39 or 06 mean or the year of manufacture, etc?

Thanks for any help or directions you could point me in, Jeff

Hi Jeff,

this is my first Kaweco, I am not at all an expert of Kaweco. I know that mine was manifactured before April 15th, 1939 because I have the Warranty signed with that Date in Wien, Austria. I guess Elite was produce from mid thirties till war time, but I am not sure. Your 39 makes me think it is the year it was made.

Sorry that I cannot be more helpful.

Hi,

thanks for the reply, this is my first Kaweco also. I thought the 39 might mean 1939, but someone from the forum suggested that it might not be a date, but didn't give me any alternative info either.

I do very much enjoy writing with this pen, the size, the nib, the filling mechanism, etc. The only other fps I have used are Esterbrook Dollars.

Jeff
