I let a few drops of Murasaki Shikibu come on my fingers while filling my Parker Sonnet .....

I opened a package of samples I got from Ebay, and Murasaki Shikibu had gone rogue inside it. Eek!

Fortunately, it scrubbed off easily, and there was still plenty left in the vial. Gorgeous colour! Think I'll be ordering a full bottle sooner or later. :)

Reading this topic I'm now confused as to whether the fact that my Baoer 388 always leaves ink on my writing hand is: (1) normal; or (2) a sign that this cheap pen leaks a little. I would really like to be able to write all day and still shake hands with people without being embarrassed about the color of my hand. Will spending money on a better quality poem like a Montblanc or a Pelikan Souveran 800 eliminate the inky writing hand?

Iroshizuku Yu-Yake - the bottle just arrived in the mail yesterday and already I'm covered in orange spots. It is a lovely colour, though I prefer to see it on paper rather than all over my fingers.

Doing some pen cleaning today and, on examination, note that I have been "baptized" with Iroshizuku Kon-peki and Lamy Copper Orange on my right index and middle fingers. Actually look quite nice together.

Unusually, I have ink on me today. Aurora Black, from trying to adjust the nib on a balky pen. The Belomo 10x loupe that came today, sadly, show clear baby's bottom, so it isn't something I can fix with a fingernail. As this is one of my more expensive pens, and a vintage one, I'll let a nibmeister at it to make it sing.

Not sure if I'll send it off or take it to the SF show - I was thinking to take a broad Lamy 2000 to the SF show and have it ground to a stub or architect's point - or see our local wizard can lay hands on it.

The Belomo loupe is MUCH better than the one I got from Goulets. Tipping is suddenly clear. Smaller area to work in and no light, but MUCH clearer image. The Goulet one is fine for reading imprints and Esterbrook nib numbers, but the Belomo blows it away for tipping.

Some J Herbin inks behaved badly when I filled som pens. I now have Eclat de Saphir, Bleu Nuit and Perle Noire on my fingers after filling from bottles. For Lierre Sauvage I used a cartridge and the ink stayed in it and did not end up on my fingers. Conclusion: cartridges are better than bottles ;)

J Herbin vert olive and poussiere de lune made it onto six out of ten fingers today. And I think those other three splotches are Sailor yama-dori, but it might be something else!

Well, I can't say whether your pen is leaking or not, but I don't think the price of the pen necessarily dictates whether you get ink on your hands or not. A flared section tends to help me keep my fingers from sliding down to the nib. So, my Ahabs don't leak, but I always get ink on me because the nibs are gigantic and the section is not flared. The pilots have small nibs, so I don't get inky, and the lamy safaris have a bit of a flare to the section, in addition to the infamous triangular grip, both of which stop me from getting ink all over.

Of course, if you uncap your pen and there is already ink on the section, you might try storing it nib up or something like that.

Just a touch of iroshizuku chiku-rin from The Goulet Pen Company...out of my pen it's a delightful springtime new leafy green...on my finger...not so much

"You mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger darling.” "Forever optimistic with a theme and purpose." "My other pen is oblique and dippy."

The Conway Stewart due to a catastrophic converter leak and the DC blue from a Ink bottle cap incident !

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm sure this has happened multiple times on this very long thread before, but today I mistook blood on my finger from a cut for ink, as I usually have a burgundy or two in some pen (in this case, the suspect would have been Franklin Christoph Syrah Syrah had I not run afoul of a tuna tin).

Today my fingers are ...... clean !!!! But just for a few hours as I have to flush my Jinhao which ran out of ink and choose another one in rotation. Then, I 'll fill it and I know that it's impossible for me to do that without having ink on one or another finger .......
