Briefcase Dilemma: Sab Vs Montblanc

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

It's been some time now I am thinking about a good briefcase for everyday use. I am under a PhD programme so I use the old one I have a lot. I am wavering between the MB Meisterstuck Triple-Gusset vs the SAB Westminster Wrap SS.

I have seen both. For MB I like the fact that it has special cases for writing instruments. I have two MBs I carry everyday. From the other side, I like a lot the classic style of the SAB.

Also, is the MB hand-stitched? If not then I think SAB has an advantage over MB for the same amount of money they cost.

What do you think? What are your opinions?

Regards,

Gregory

I'm no help, I'd go to goodwill or some other thrift shop and buy something that's been abused but still holding up well enough for another year or two.

:roflmho:

Go with the one that will compliment your shoes the best??

I don't know, I'm just being silly.

Does Swaine Adeney Brigg briefcases offer a custom option?

A SaB briefcase should last well into retirement if properly looked after and would probably be my pick before any other.:happyberet:

It's also quite simple to put your favourite pens in a pen case or pen wrap to place into your briefcase.

Does Swaine Adeney Brigg briefcases offer a custom option?

Yes, it does. But SAB is only offered from SAB's official website and custom-made options are available upon a new order; they do not have boutiques. However I managed to find one here in Greece, therefore, I cannot do any modifications, unless I send it back to London!

I am soooooo glad I saw this as I am a briefcase fanatic - currently have 24 high end leather cases at my feet - and if you like the styling of the SAB Westminster Wrap SS then I suggest what I feel is not only the best but perhaps the most exclusive case of that type made and one that costs less... Glaser Designs Flaptop

Glaser Designs has been around for a long time but has just 7 employees and when you call you'll get Myron or Kari Glaser who make these incredible cases by hand to your specification. I have nearly one example of every case thery make and some with over 200 international trips on them look as beautiful as they did on day one. Highly functional and original...and you won't see anybody else walking around with one. Nothing mass produced, all cases made from one hide. I have given many as gifts and in every case the folks love them. I am talking about lawyers, professors, judges and the like - people with high expectations.

When you call and speak to Myron or Kari tell them that David from Pittsburgh sent you. They will do a video skype with you to discuss your planned case and options before they cut leather. Wonderful, sincere people.

PM me if you want to call me for more details or want pictures. I do have a lot of cases but since 1996 Glaser is all I carry.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
