I have four Waterman pens, and I love them all:-

(i) Waterman Man 100 in sterling silver - a fantastic pen which is amongst one of my favourite sterling silver pens;

(ii) A Charleston in ivory;

(iii) Expert II in burgandy or maroon; and,

(iv) Phileas green.

The Phileas was one of my everyday pens in use, but I am at present using the Twsbi 530 for variation, and am enjoying that too. All my Watermans however write splendidly.

Hello,

Has anyone written with an Exception FP? What are they like?

They look beautiful, but are rather expensive here in Australia, (~$720).

Another good looking Waterman pen is the Perspective.

Does anyone know if these are still manufactured?

Best regards,

Steve.

I have a Wtaerman Carene. I'm desperately disappointed with it. It's scratchy to use and it leaks dreadfully. I've bout a new nib from Waterman but it's still the same. :-(

I've only got one; a chrome Expert I got when I was 13 to start off my collection. It's lovely, but it never wrote right after it rolled off a table and the nib got bent. Ordering a replacement nib is a hassle, and costs almost as much as the pen :(.

I find it hard to believe that 2 nib sections would produce the same problem. Are you using cartridges or converter.

I have bought 13 Carene's, some new some used, with nibs in fine, medium and broad and non do what yours has done.

Even though you have bought a new section, if its under 3 years old or one of the Lifetime warranty models then it is well worth sending it to them.

Hello, I'm relatively new to FPN, I read much more than I post.

In 1996 I bought a Waterman Phileas and fell in love with it.

Then circa 2005 or so a co-worker told me about the upcoming Fountain Pen show in Cary, NC.

I'm sure you can see where this story is headed. With only enough funds for one pen, I was overwhelmed by the thousands of pens for sale in the room.

With knowledge only of one brand, I decided to purchase a Waterman 52 woodgrain.

That began my lust for both modern and vintage pens, focused on, but not exclusive to Waterman's.

As of today:

52 woodgrain

94 mahoganey and cream set

32 red and gold

3 red and green

84 Ink-Vue silver ray set

Two Phileases (blue and green) (Just gave a red one to a niece - I think it was my second-ever decent fountain pen.) I seldom use these.

One Carene, amber shimmer - a delightful pen despite my having dropped it on its point three times (with subsequent repair by Richard Binder). A daily user.

One - simple metal cylinder with blueish varnish (flaking) circa 1992, which has leaked since the day my wife bought it for signing our wedding register. One of the few pens I have not been able to fix. Not sure of the model.

Bit of a re-shuffle prior to Christmas which has left me with an Edson fountain pen fitted with an oblique fine nib and an Edson rollerball.

Several Black Phileas FPs; a solid red, solid blue, solid green Phileas FP (looking for more); and a Liaison FP. Love 'em all.thumbup.gif

  • 2 weeks later...

Just three Watermans for me -

* Green Marble Phileas

* Audace in the Midnight Glamour design

* a 52 that is fairly discoloured but sort of Olive Green with a chevron pattern and a gold flowery band. It also needs a good clean and restoration to make it usable. I'll try to take a few photographs of this one later!

Just 2 Waterman pens currently:

  • Waterman Expert 2 Black Matte Finish - Medium Nib
  • Phileas Black - Extra Fine Nib

I love them both but the Phileas tends to be used more frequently as I'm not a big fan of Mediums (and in the case of the Waterman nibs, tend to be a bit wider).

I went back to the shop and they gladly exchanged by Medium Nib to an Extra Fine Nib so I'm using the Expert again. Good times!

  • Carene Black/Gold (F). Great pen, I've been using it for ten years now.
  • Anastasia Green (F). Very small. Mine has flow problems and needs a cleaning.
  • Exception Silver (Marks of the time LE) (M). Although the square section tends to draw negative comments, I'm liking it. And the nib is wet and performs more like a broad, which I also like.

Lamy 2000 (B nib), Lamy AL-star (B nib), Lamy Lady (K nib), Parker Sonnet (B nib), Waterman Carene (F, B nibs), Waterman Anastasia (F nib), Waterman Exception Silver (M nib), Paper Mate (M nib), Lepine Murano (M nib), Rotring Art Pen (EF, M, BB nibs), Dupont 007 LE (M nib), Sailor Professional Gear (EF nib), Stipula Etruria Ambra (T-flex nib), Aurora Archivi Storici, Aurora Dante Inferno LE (B nib).

An M Phileas with very picky flow. Granted I write with conceptually the lightest hand possible (it's really only the pen's weight on the paper), I have many other FP's that are well up to the task, including my other Waterman. A vintage emblem with a semi-flex, fine nib. Wonderful pen. Might be about time to have a go at the wet noodles.

One lone grey Lady Patricia Ink Vue. Although it is a rather small pen it holds a lot of ink and has a great nib.

I'd rather spend my money on pens instead of shoes and handbags.
